Eddie Graham (politician)
Edgar Hugh Graham (19 January 1897 – 13 November 1957) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1941 until his death . He was a member of the Labor Party and held numerous ministerial positions. He was the Minister for Agriculture for 13 years. Graham was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales and was the son of a farmer. He was educated to elementary level at state schools and initially worked as a butcher. He later worked as a stock agent and pig breeder. Graham was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Labor member for Wagga Wagga at the 1941 state election. He defeated the sitting Country Party member, Matthew Kilpatrick in the landslide victory that allowed William McKell to form a government. He held the seat at the next five elections and died as the sitting member in 1957. Minister For Primary Industries (New South Wales)
The New South Wales Minister for Agriculture is responsible for the administration and development of agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, state forests, biosecurity, and crown lands in New South Wales, Australia. The current minister, who also serves as the Minister for Western New South Wales, is Dugald Saunders, since 21 December 2021. The minister administers the portfolio through the Regional NSW cluster, including the Department of Regional NSW and a range of other government agencies such as the Department of Primary Industries. William McKell
Sir William John McKell (26 September 1891 – 11 January 1985) was an Australian politician who served as the 12th Governor-General of Australia, in office from 1947 to 1953. He had previously been Premier of New South Wales from 1941 to 1947, as leader of the Labor Party. McKell was born in the small town of Pambula, New South Wales, but grew up in Sydney. He left school at thirteen, training as a boilermaker at Mort's Dock. McKell soon became involved with the union movement, and after a brief period on the railways began working full-time as a union secretary. He sided with the anti-conscriptionists during the Labor Party split of 1916, and at the 1917 state election defeated James McGowen, a former Labor premier who had been expelled from the party. Wal Fife
Wallace Clyde Fife (2 October 1929 – 16 November 2017) was an Australian politician and minister in the New South Wales Government and Federal Government. Early life Fife was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and was educated at Wagga Wagga Public School, Wagga Wagga and Canberra Grammar School. In 1948 he started working in the federal secretariat of the Liberal Party and in 1949 he joined his family business, Fifes Produce Pty Ltd, in Wagga Wagga. He married Marcia Hargreaves Stanley in May 1952 and they had two daughters and two sons. Political career Fife was elected as the member for Wagga Wagga in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1957. Joseph Cahill
John Joseph Cahill (21 January 189122 October 1959), also known as Joe Cahill or J. J. Cahill, was a long-serving New South Wales politician, railway worker, trade unionist and Labor Party Premier of New South Wales from 1952 to his death in 1959. Born the son of Irish migrants in Redfern, New South Wales, Cahill worked for the New South Wales Government Railways from the age of 16 before joining the Australian Labor Party. Being a prominent unionist organiser, including being dismissed for his role in the 1917 general strike, Cahill was eventually elected to the Parliament of New South Wales for St George in 1925. James McGirr
James "Jim" McGirr, Justice of the peace, JP (6 February 1890 – 27 October 1957) was the Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch), Labor Premier of New South Wales from 6 February 1947 to 3 April 1952. A Catholic, McGirr was the seventh son of John Patrick McGirr, farmer and Irish immigrant, and Mary McGirr, whose maiden name was O'Sullivan. Matthew Kilpatrick
Matthew Kilpatrick (8 December 1873 – 13 January 1949) was an Australian politician. He was born in County Donegal in Ireland, the son of farmer Thomas Kilpatrick and Esther, ''née'' Wilson. He arrived in Victoria in July 1874 and quickly moved to the Goulburn Valley, where he farmed dairy cattle until 1890. After moving to the Riverina district and buying a property at Oaklands he married Fanny Pyke in 1899, with whom he had three children. He resumed farming and was on the executive of the Farmers and Settlers Association from 1920 to 1921. He married Mary Becker in 1921 with whom he had a further three children. In 1920, Kilpatrick was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as a Progressive member for Murray. Bill Dunn (Australian Politician)
William Fraser Dunn (2 February 18777 October 1951) was a Labor Party politician and member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1910 until 1950. He served as Minister for Agriculture for eight years, as well as deputy leader and leader of the Labor Party in New South Wales. Early life Dunn was born in Queanbeyan where his father was a small farm holder. He was educated at the local public school which he left at the age of 15 to assist on his father's farm. Following an injury he joined the New South Wales Department of Education and taught at various schools in NSW regional areas.
