Eastern Railway SC
Eastern Railway Football Club (formerly known as both the East Bengal Railway FC and Eastern Bengal Railway FC) is an Indian institutional football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Founded in 1882, the club currently competes in the CFL Premier Division B. It previously participated and enjoyed success in the highest division of Calcutta Football League. History Founded as "East Bengal Railway Sports Club" in 1882, Eastern Railway has played in many top tournaments in India like the IFA Shield – where they won the then top tournament in 1944. The club later won All-India Railway Championship thrice. They clinched Calcutta Football League title in 1958, and became the first team outside the ''Big Three'' of Calcutta to win it. The club used to also be a force in the Durand Cup, making it into the finals of the 1927 tournament. They also won the Bordoloi Trophy in 1967. The Calcutta Football League (CFL) is a ladder-based football competition in the Indian state of West Bengal, organised by Indian Football Association (WB), under state football leagues in India. Due to sponsorship reasons, the league is officially known as SNU Calcutta Football League, and is the oldest football league in Asia. Indian Football Association (IFA) conducts the CFL with more than 160 mostly Kolkata based clubs and units. ''Anandabazar Patrika'' (Bengali: আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকা, ) is an Indian Bengali-language daily newspaper owned by the ABP Group. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, it has a circulation of 1 million copies as of December 2019. Its main competitors are ''Bartaman'', ''Ei Samay'', and ''Sangbad Pratidin''. History A Bengali newspaper was published in 1876 in a small village of Magura at Jessore District in British India (now Bangladesh) by Tushar Kanti Ghosh and his father Sisir Kumar Ghosh. Mohan Kumar Mangalam Football Tournament commonly known as the MKM Trophy, MKM Memorial Football Tournament is a prestigious annual Indian football tournament held in Zawar Rajasthan and organized by Hindustan Zinc Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) is an Indian integrated mining and resources producer of zinc, lead, silver and cadmium. Sait Nagjee Football Tournament
The Sait Nagjee All India Football Tournament is one of the most prestigious football Tournaments held in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. The tournament was very popular from the beginning & attracted large crowd since 1952. The tournament played until 1995 regularly though with stoppages a couple of times. In 1995, the tournament was won by JCT Mills. Since 1995, there was a gap of 21 years during which the tournament was not held. Due to various reasons including the predominance gained by cricket, lack of support from the government and the escalation of real estate costs made football less popular. DCM Trophy
The Delhi Cloth Mills Trophy, known simply as D.C.M. Trophy, was an invitational football tournament in India. It was held annually in New Delhi and was organised by the local Delhi Football Association. It was India's first football tournament to provide the national clubs with international exposure due to participation of international clubs from Asia and Europe. History The tournament was established in 1945 by Bharat Ram and Charat Ram of the Delhi Cloth & General Mills textile conglomerate. Delhi's local teams won the first two editions; since then, clubs from Calcutta have dominated the 1950s and early 1960s, and foreign clubs since the late 1960s. The tournament has not been organised since 1997 due to fixture congestion and various restructuring policies in Indian club football. Mohun Bagan was the last winner of the tournament. Rovers Cup
The Rovers Cup was an annual football tournament held in India, organized by the Western India Football Association. It was the second oldest tournament in India after Durand Cup. History Rovers Cup was incorporated by some British football enthusiasts in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, in 1890, as a form of amusement. After the foundation of Bombay Football Association (BFA) in 1902, the tournament became well organized. Patronised by Justice Russell, the tournament was firstly opened to British teams. Later in 1911, Western India Football Association was founded as a result of merger between BFA and Rovers Cup Committee. After justice Russel became president and P. R. Sushil Bhattacharya
Sushil Bhattacharya (1924 – 18 July 2015) was an Indian professional football player and coach, who is credited for becoming the first manager of the India women's national football team. He was also the first head coach in history of East Bengal Club. Playing career Born in Bagdogra, Bhattacharya used to play both cricket and hockey beside football. He began his playing career with Town Club in Berhampur, representing the team in IFA Shield. He then appeared with Vidyasagar College and Sporting Union, before signing with East Bengal in 1945. With East Bengal, he achieved the double in 1945 by winning both the Calcutta Football League and IFA Shield. His consistent performances on both flanks in a 3–2–5 formation helped the team achieving success and earned him a national team callup in 1946. Nikhil Nandy (1932 – 29 December 2020) was an Indian footballer. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1956 Summer Olympics. Prasanta Sinha was an Indian association football player who represented India internationally, and played club football for East Bengal. Playing career He was part of the India national team that finished as runners-up at the 1964 AFC Asian Cup in Israel. He won the gold medal with the Indian team managed by Syed Abdul Rahim, at the 1962 Asian Games football final, defeating South Korea 2–1. In club football, he played for East Bengal FC, where he won Calcutta Football League once and IFA Shield three times.
