Eastern Mavericks is a NBL1 Central club based in Mount Barker, South Australia. The club fields both a men's and women's team. The club is a division of the overarching Eastern Mavericks District Basketball Club (EMDBC), the major administrative basketball organisation in the Adelaide Hills region. The Mavericks play their home games at St Francis de Sales Community Sports Centre. NBL1 Central
NBL1 Central, formerly the Premier League, is a semi-professional basketball league in South Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball South Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to South Australia. NBL1 replaced the former Premier League to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in South Australia. As a result, the Premier League became the central conference of NBL1. History The South Australian Metropolitan Basketball Association was founded in 1936. All games were played at Duncan Buildings, Franklin Street, Adelaide, with 16 teams competing. After World War II, basketball resumed at the Our Boys Institute in the city and at suburban drill halls, with 27 teams. Mount Barker, South Australia
Mount Barker is a city in South Australia. Located approximately 33 kilometres (21 miles) from the Adelaide city centre, it is home to 16,629 residents. It is the seat of the District Council of Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, as well as one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Australian Basketball Association
The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) was a semi-professional basketball entity based in Australia. The ABA was Australia's biggest basketball competition for many years. With over 120 teams participating across five leagues and six states, the ABA competition was the vital link between grass roots basketball in Australia and the elite NBL and WNBL leagues. The association provided a high standard of competition for local basketballers from across the country as well as an intense environment for professionals to use in their off seasons. Between 1965 and 2008, the ABA played an integral part in the development of Australian basketball with hundreds of former and active NBL and WNBL players honing their skills against world-class opposition. Jacob Holmes
Jacob Holmes (born 14 August 1983) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 14 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL). Professional career Holmes attended the Australian Institute of Sport from 2000 to 2001. Holmes debut for the Adelaide 36ers in the during the 2001–02 NBL season and was a member of the teams' NBL championship win that year. Three more seasons followed with the 36ers where the Phil Smyth coached team never made it past the quarter-finals before he signed with the South Dragons for the 2006–07 NBL season. His leadership was acknowledged within the Dragons to the point where he earned the club captaincy as well as winning the Dragons MVP award for the 2007–08 season. Brad Hill (basketball)
Brad Hill (born 19 November 1986) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball League (NBL) and the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). He currently serves as an assistant coach with the NBL's Cairns Taipans and the QBL's Cairns Marlins. Professional career In 2004 and 2005, Hill attended the Australian Institute of Sport and played for the program's SEABL team. Hill made his NBL debut during the 2004/05 season for the Adelaide 36ers. After three seasons with the 36ers, Hill joined the South Dragons in 2007. However, due to injury, he appeared in just four games for the Dragons. In 2008, he re-joined the 36ers and played with them until 2011. Cayla George (née Francis; born 1 May 1989) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Las Vegas Aces of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
