Eupora, Mississippi
Eupora is the largest city in Webster County, central Mississippi. The population was 2,197 at the 2010 census. History Eupora was established in 1889 by European Americans on a spur track of the Georgia Pacific Railway. While there had been agricultural development prior to this in the county, the railroad stimulated trade and businesses. Today this is the largest city in the county. Near here was a site in 1770 of armed conflict among some Native American tribes. The Chakchiuma were destroyed by the allied Choctaw and Chickasaw, who were traditional enemies in the region. They dominated territories in what became Mississippi and Alabama. In 1904 Bud Simpson, an African-American man also known as Sterling (or Starling) Dunham, was accused of raping some white girls. Not given a trial, he was lynched - hanged from a tree by a mob of 200 cheering white people. They riddled his body with bullets. Webster County is a County (United States), county located in center of the U.S. state of Mississippi, bordered on the south by the Big Black River (Mississippi), Big Black River. Mathiston is a town in Choctaw and Webster counties, Mississippi. The population was 698 at the 2010 census. Geography Most of the town is in Webster County with a portion on the south side extending into Choctaw County. In the 2000 census, 643 of the town's 720 residents (89.3%) lived in Webster County and 77 (10.7%) in Choctaw County. Derrick Jones (born December 4, 1994) is an American football cornerback and wide receiver. He played college football at Ole Miss. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. College career Coming in to the Ole Miss Rebels football program as a three-star wide receiver, Jones switched to cornerback his freshman year and started four games.
