The East Shetland Basin is a major oil-producing area of the North Sea between Scotland and Norway. Oil produced in the UK area is landed at Sullom Voe Terminal in the Shetland Islands. Associated gas flows via the FLAGS pipeline to St Fergus Gas Terminal. Magnus Oilfield
The Magnus oilfield is a large oilfield in the United Kingdom's zone of North Sea. It is located north-east of the Shetland Islands. The field is located mainly in Block 211/12a. Resources are estimated to total of oil, of which are recoverable reserves. History The Magnus oilfield was discovered in March 1974 by BP. The discovery was made below the seabed in the younger sands of the Late Jurassic by the semi-submersible drilling rig Sedco 703. Similarly to several other fields in the area, the field was named after the Viking saint– Magnus of Orkney. It was announced on 24 January 2017 that BP will sell a 25% share of the field and turn over the operatorship to EnQuest. Thistle Oil Field
The Thistle oil field is a large oil field in the northern sector of the North Sea. The oil field, discovered in September 1972 by Signal Oil and Gas Company, is produced over the Thistle Alpha platform, located 125 nautical miles northeast of Sumburgh, Shetland Islands and 275 nautical miles Northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland. Licence P236 was awarded as part of the UKCS fourth round in 1972, and the first well on the site was drilled and completed in July 1973 when the Thistle oil field was confirmed as a commercial discovery. The oil has a gravity of 38.4°API. The oil field is estimated to have a reserve of roughly 824 million barrels of oil. The nearby Deveron field, also produced over the Thistle Alpha platform, was discovered in 1972 following the successful completion of a second well on the site. Ninian Pipeline
The Ninian Pipeline is a long crude oil pipeline, which runs from the Ninian Central platform in the northern North Sea to the Sullom Voe Terminal in Shetland Islands of Scotland. Specification The Ninian pipeline was laid in July 1976. It is a X65 steel pipeline with an outside diameter of with a wall thickness of 0.75 and 0.875 inches. The pipeline has a corrosion coating and a 65 mm concrete buoyancy coating. There are 200 kg Sacrificial zinc (Impalloy) anodes at ever 12th joint, with a total mass of 150 tonnes. Buckle arrestors comprising steel sleeves 1-inch thick and 2 m long are located every 36th joint. Murchison Oilfield
The Murchison oil field is located in the northern North Sea in the East Shetland Basin on the UK Continental Shelf. The field is situated 150 km north-east of Shetland and straddles the UK/Norwegian median line. It lies in UK Block 211/19 and extends into Norwegian Block 33/9. The field is named after the Scottish geologist Sir Roderick Impey Murchison (1792–1871). Recoverable reserves were estimated to be 340 million barrels of oil out of a total oil-in-place of 790 million barrels. The field was developed through a large steel jacket platform standing in 156 m of water. The peak production rate was 150,383 barrels of oil per day in December 1982. Hutton Oilfield
The Hutton oil field, located on the UK continental shelf, was the location for the first ever production Tension-leg platform, Tension Leg Platform (TLP).
