East Marshall Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Gilman, Iowa. It operates an elementary school in Laurel, a middle school in Gilman, and a high school in Le Grand. The district is mostly in Marshall County with portions in Tama, Jasper, and Poweshiek counties. The district includes Gilman, Laurel, Le Grand, Ferguson and a small portion of Marshalltown. The district was established on July 1, 1992, by the merger of the LDF and SEMCO school districts. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Marshalltown is a city in and the county seat of Marshall County, Iowa, United States, located along the Iowa River. It is the seat and most populous settlement of Marshall County and the 16th largest city in Iowa, with a population of 27,591 at the 2020 census.
