East Devon Eagles
East Devon Eagles are a rugby league team based in Exmouth, Devon. They play in the South West Division of the Rugby League Conference. History After a campaign by the Rugby Football League to form new clubs in the South West a rugby league game was staged between East Devon Eagles and Devon Sharks, then based at Newton Abbot. The Eagles were Devon Cup winners in 2006. They joined the newly formed South West Division of the Rugby League Conference in 2007. They won the Devon Challenge Cup in a final against Plymouth Titans that was featured on Sky Sports. East Devon Eagles finished level on points with Devon Sharks who they beat 38-22 in a semi-final play-off. They won the RLC South West Division in 2008 and made it to the final of the Devon Cup but lost 31-20 to Plymouth Titans. They completed the 2009 regular season unbeaten before going down to Devon Sharks in the Grand Final. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. The South West Rugby League (SWRL) also known as the ''South West Men's League'', is a rugby league competition for teams in the South West of England. It was formerly part of the Rugby League Conference. The SWRL is a semi-autonomous league with a five-member committee under an Rugby Football League (RFL) appointed chairman. The Rugby Football League is the governing body for professional rugby league in England, and until 1995 for the whole British Isles. The name Rugby Football League previously also referred to the main league competition run by the organisation. This has since been supplanted by Super League, the Championship and League 1. Devon Sharks are a rugby league team based in Bovey Tracey, Devon. The club were officially founded on Wednesday 3 May 2006 by Steve Hart, Darren West, Lee Kirkman and Christine Fairchild. History ''Devon Sharks'' were formed in 2006 out of Newton Abbot RFC as part of an initiative from the Rugby Football League to form new clubs for the Rugby League Conference. They were based at the All Whites Rackerhayes home. That first year for Sharks was difficult as they only ever had eleven players to call upon. Their first game was against East Devon Eagles which they lost 68-0. In 2007 Sharks joined the newly formed South West Division of the Rugby League Conference and it took a last-ditch appeal in the local press to ensure they had enough players to meet the Somerset Vikings in the season opener. Exeter Centurions are a rugby league team based in Exeter, Devon. They play in the South West Rugby League. History ''Exeter Centurions'' were formed by Basingstoke Beasts founder Joe Catcheside. They joined the newly formed South West Division of the Rugby League Conference in 2007. In their first two seasons, Exeter only won one matc Exeter co-hosted the 2009 South West Nines competition and reached the final before losing to Exeter University at Duckes Meadow. In the regular season, the club's performance improved significantly, finishing in third in the league and reaching the SW Cup Final, which they lost against East Devon Eagles at Plymouth Albion's Brickfields ground. The Brickfields
Brickfields Recreation Ground is a sports stadium and multi-sport complex in Devonport, Devon, Devonport, Plymouth, England, Plymouth, England. It is run by EveryoneActive on behalf of Plymouth City Council, and is the home ground of Rugby Union team Plymouth Albion R.F.C., Plymouth Albion of the National League 1, who moved there in 2003, after leaving their old ground at Beacon Park.
