Devon Sharks
Devon Sharks are a rugby league team based in Bovey Tracey, Devon. The club were officially founded on Wednesday 3 May 2006 by Steve Hart, Darren West, Lee Kirkman and Christine Fairchild. History ''Devon Sharks'' were formed in 2006 out of Newton Abbot RFC as part of an initiative from the Rugby Football League to form new clubs for the Rugby League Conference. They were based at the All Whites Rackerhayes home. That first year for Sharks was difficult as they only ever had eleven players to call upon. Their first game was against East Devon Eagles which they lost 68-0. In 2007 Sharks joined the newly formed South West Division of the Rugby League Conference and it took a last-ditch appeal in the local press to ensure they had enough players to meet the Somerset Vikings in the season opener. The Brickfields
Brickfields Recreation Ground is a sports stadium and multi-sport complex in Devonport, Devon, Devonport, Plymouth, England, Plymouth, England. It is run by EveryoneActive on behalf of Plymouth City Council, and is the home ground of Rugby Union team Plymouth Albion R.F.C., Plymouth Albion of the National League 1, who moved there in 2003, after leaving their old ground at Beacon Park. The highest crowd was 6,871, for a match against local rivals Exeter Chiefs in October 2008. Tiverton, Devon
Tiverton ( ) is a town and civil parish in Devon, England, and the commercial and administrative centre of the Mid Devon district. The population in 2019 was 20,587. History Early history The town's name is conjectured to derive from "Twy-ford-ton" or "Twyverton", meaning "the town on two fords", and was historically referred to as "Twyford". The town stands at the confluence of the rivers Exe and Lowman. Human occupation in the area dates back to the Stone Age, with many flint tools found in the area. An Iron Age hill fort, Cranmore Castle, stands at the top of Exeter Hill above the town, and a Roman fort or marching camp was discovered on the hillside below Knightshayes Court near Bolham, just to the north of the town. Tiverton Rugby Club is a rugby union club based in the town of Tiverton, Devon, England. The club plays at Coronation Field, and as of the 2014–15 season competes in the level seven Tribute Western Counties West league and the Devon Intermediate Cup. It is considered to be the oldest rugby club in Devon. History Tiverton Rugby Club was the opposing team in the first recorded rugger match played by the boys of Blundell's School in 1868. According to the club's website, the game was played under the school's own rules: with twenty players in each team, no flags, a referee and two umpires and it was known as the "carrying game". Plymouth Rugby League Football Club is a rugby league club based in Plymouth. The club is a member of the South West Rugby League, playing home matches at Horsham Fields, Plymouth. History History of rugby league in the South West The first attempt at forming a club was in the Northern Union days of 1912 when in a dispute over inducements to players, attempts were made to form a Western League of clubs in Devon and Cornwall.
