Eagle Grove, Iowa
Eagle Grove is a city in Wright County, Iowa, United States. The population was 3,601 at the time of the 2020 census. Eagle Grove is the largest city in Wright County. History Eagle Grove was platted in 1881. It was named from the eagle nests seen by early settlers in a nearby Oak tree grove perched above the bank of the Boone River . In 1851 Mr. N. B. Paine moved to Wright County, purchased property and constructed a log cabin that stood directly west of the grove. The nest was over six feet in diameter. The eagles settled in the nest in the spring and summer of 1855-56, However in the spring of 1857 they were shot and killed by a trapper. Thus Eagle Grove was named in honour of these eagles. . On February 2, 1973, a natural gas explosion killed 13 people and leveled the Chatterbox Cafe and the neighboring Coast to Coast hardware store at the southeast corner of Broadway Street and Commerce Avenue. Humboldt County, Iowa
Humboldt County is a county in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,597. The county seat is Dakota City. The county was created in 1857 and named in honor of Alexander von Humboldt. History Founding Iowa's entry to the union was approved by Congress on March 3, 1845, with statehood beginning on December 28, 1846, following approval of the state's constitution and boundaries. In order to establish county government across the state, the Iowa General Assembly passed an act on January 15, 1851, which created fifty counties in the half of the state where county government had not yet been established. Eagle Grove Community School District
The Eagle Grove Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The district covers area of Wright, Humboldt, and Webster counties. and serves Eagle Grove, Thor, Vincent, Woolstock, and the surrounding rural areas. Jess Toliver has been the superintendent since 2009. On December 26, 2018, his home was destroyed by a fire. The family was home, but managed to escape the fire. During a broadcast of a high school basketball game between Eagle Grove and Forest City on November 28, 2017, two employees were recorded making racist comments regarding some Eagle Grove players who they perceived to be "Español people", saying they were foreigners who should "go back where they came from."
