''EPC'' was the third EP released by the experimental rock band Battles. It was released by Dotlinecircle in 2004. In Japan, this EP was well received critically and is the only EP by Battles (whose name is rendered on the front cover in katakana, バトルス, ''Batorusu'') to be released in Japan alone. Battles (band)
Battles is an American experimental rock group, founded in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress). The current line-up is a duo, composed of guitarist/keyboardist Williams and drummer John Stanier (formerly of Helmet, Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain). Former members include composer/vocalist Tyondai Braxton and guitarist/bassist Dave Konopka. The band has released four studio albums to date, with the most recent ''Juice B Crypts'' being released in 2019. The band are regarded as one of the most innovative math rock bands of both the 2000s and the 2010s, with critics praising the band's unique sound. In 2007, ''Pitchfork'' wrote that "Battles have done more to extend the idea of a flesh-and-blood band enhanced by computer technology than anyone since the late, lamented Disco Inferno." Math Rock
Math rock is a style of progressive and indie rock with roots in bands such as King Crimson and Rush as well as 20th-century minimal music composers such as Steve Reich. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords. It bears similarities to post-rock. Characteristics Math rock is typified by its rhythmic complexity, seen as ''mathematical'' in character by listeners and critics. While most rock music uses a meter (however accented or syncopated), math rock makes use of more non-standard, frequently changing time signatures such as , , , or . ''EP C/B EP'' is a two disc compilation by the American math rock band Battles. It brings together the two previous EPs, '' EP C'', '' B EP'' and the "Tras" single. It was released in 2006 on Warp Records. ''EP C'' was originally released on June 8, 2004 with Monitor Records, and ''B EP'' on September 14, 2004 with Dim Mak Records. Track listing The final track, "FANTASY", is divided into 10 tracks on the CD version. The first of these is 8:31, this is followed by 8 tracks of 4 second bass kicks. Katakana
is a Japanese syllabary, one component of the Japanese writing system along with hiragana, kanji and in some cases the Latin script (known as rōmaji).
