EMTÉ was a supermarket chain in the Netherlands. It was part of Sligro Food Group. EMTÉ was founded in 1948 as a butcher. History Foundation and initial expansion, 1948–2002 EMTÉ started back in 1948 as a butcher in the city of Waalwijk, Netherlands. When owner Mechie Trommelen was planning to open a second location in the city of Drunen, he was inspired by two already existing companies to open a supermarket. On 2 March 1965, he opened the first EMTÉ supermarket. It was a success so a second store was opened, this time with a liquor store in it. A third store was opened in 1973, a fourth in 1978, a fifth in 1982. This went on until EMTÉ had 12 locations. Waalwijk () is a municipality and a city in the southern Netherlands. It had a population of in and is located near the motorways A59 and N261. Drunen
Drunen is a town in the municipality of Heusden in the southern Netherlands. The town is part of a region called the ('long road') which is historically known for its leather and shoe industry. Since 1813, Drunen had been a separate municipality, consisting of the towns Drunen, Elshout, and Giersbergen. Dieren
Dieren () is a town in the eastern Netherlands. It is located in Rheden, Gelderland, between Zutphen and Arnhem, on the bank of the IJssel. Dieren was a separate municipality until 1818, when it became a part of Rheden. The Gazelle bicycle factory is located in Dieren. History "Hof te Dieren" was the house of the Dutch Stadtholder Frederik Hendrik of Orange, William II, Prince of Orange, William III of Orange and William IV of Orange. They enlarged the house and held hunting parties in the nearby woods. A road was built, connecting Dieren to The Hague, which is called the "Koningsweg". The road can still be found in many places in the Netherlands, such as Otterlo.
