The School of English and American Studies (SEAS) of the ELTE Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University was founded in 1886 as Department of English Language and Literature and it is located in Rákóczi út in Józsefváros, Budapest, Hungary. Along with the Department of English, University of Vienna, Department of English of the University of Vienna, the School of English and American Studies is one of the biggest English departments in Central Europe. Ajtósi Dürer Sor
Ajtósi Dürer sor is a road in the XIV. district of Budapest, Hungary, along the south-eastern edge of Városliget, between Dózsa György út and Hungária körút (Hungary Boulevard). The buildings date back from the end of the 19th century and the interwar period. Its name was given in 1929 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Albrecht Dürer's death. Kata Csizér
Kata Csizér (17. November 1971) is a Hungarian linguist. She is currently a professor at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary. Her research focuses on applied linguistics with a special focus on motivation in second-language learning and teaching students with special needs. Csizér is considered an authority along with Zoltán Dörnyei because of her work on motivation in second-language learning. She is the author along with Zoltán Dörnyei and Nóra Németh, of three seminal articles (reaching more than 1,000 citations in the field of second language learning) on motivation in second language learning. Enikő Bollobás
Enikő Bollobás (born June 19, 1952 in Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian literary scholar, professor at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. She is a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Life and work Bollobás has written seven books on literature as well as numerous cultural and critical articles. Zoltán Kövecses
Zoltán Kövecses (born 23 September 1946 in Újpest) is a Hungarian linguist and former water polo player. He is a professor emeritus at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University. Academic career He earned a Master of Arts degree from the Eötvös Loránd University in 1972. Ádám Nádasdy
Ádám Nádasdy (born 15 February 1947) is a Hungarian linguist and poet. He is professor emeritus at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. He specializes in post-generative phonological theory, morphophonology, English and Germanic historical linguistics, varieties and dialects of English, as well as English medieval studies and Yiddish philology. He holds the degrees of Master of Arts in English and Italian (1970, ELTE); Dr. univ. in English Linguistics (1977, ELTE); and PhD in Linguistics (1994, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, MTA). Tibor Frank
Tibor Frank (3 February 1948 – 15 September 2022) was a Hungarian historian who was professor of history at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). He was director of its School of English and American Studies (1994–2001, 2006–2014). From 2013 he was corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), as of 2019 he was a full member. Biography Tibor Frank was born in 1948 in Budapest, Hungary. Teacher Education
Teacher education or teacher training refers to programs, policies, procedures, and provision designed to equip (prospective) teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, approaches, methodologies and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school, and wider community. The professionals who engage in training the prospective teachers are called teacher educators (or, in some contexts, teacher trainers). There is a longstanding and ongoing debate about the most appropriate term to describe these activities. International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) is an organisation in the field of English language learning and teaching. It is based in Britain and was founded in 1967 as ATEFL (it became ‘International’ in 1970), by W. R. (Bill) Lee, who also served as the organisation's first Chairman until 1984. IATEFL works primarily to develop networks amongst related institutions and individuals involved in language education as it is relevant to the English language. Péter Medgyes
Péter Medgyes (6 August 1945, Budapest) is a professor emeritus at the School of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University. Career After obtaining an English-Russian teacher degree from Eötvös Loránd University, he started teaching in one of the ELTE's practice school, Radnóti Miklós Secondary School in Budapest. After teaching 15 years at secondary level, he received a position at the Department of English of the Eötvös Loránd University. After the end of communism in Hungary, he established the Centre for English Teacher Training (CETT) at the ELTE. He was also the director of the CETT.
