Davao del Sur ( ceb, Habagatang Dabaw; ), officially the Province of Davao del Sur, is a province in the Philippines located in the Davao Region in Mindanao. Its capital is Digos City. Davao City is the largest city in terms of area and population within the province's jurisdiction, yet it is administratively independent from the province; as such, Davao City is only grouped for geographical and statistical purposes. The province is bounded by Davao del Norte to the north, Davao Occidental to the south-east, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat to the west, South Cotabato and Sarangani to the south-west, and the Davao Gulf to the east. Mount Apo, also known locally as Apo Sandawa, is a large solfataric, dormant stratovolcano on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. With an elevation of above sea level, it is the highest-mountain in the Philippine Archipelago, Mindanao and 24th-highest peak of an island on Earth. Located between Davao City and Davao del Sur in the Davao Region, and Cotabato in Soccsksargen, Mount Apo is the most-prominent mountain in the Philippines. Bansalan, officially the Municipality of Bansalan ( ceb, Lungsod sa Bansalan; tl, Bayan ng Bansalan), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 62,737 people. History Bansalan was a forest primeval and the aborigines were Bagobos. As they were nomadic, they traveled from one place to the other by hacking their way through the virgin forests. They also cultivated land for their staple food but soon left the place after harvest time in search of a better place to cultivate. They also had the wide area of hunting ground where at the end of the day, they brought home speared wild boar, deer or monkeys. Sulop, officially the Municipality of Sulop ( ceb, Lungsod sa Sulop; tl, Bayan ng Sulop), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Davao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 35,151 people. History The name Sulop, derived from native languages, means "swampy place surrounded by second growth forest" and "habitat of wild pigs." In the early part of the 19th century, a wave of immigrants from the Visayas Region, mostly from Cebu, came to Sulop.
