Serbian Empire
The Serbian Empire ( sr, / , ) was a medieval Serbian state that emerged from the Kingdom of Serbia. It was established in 1346 by Dušan the Mighty, who significantly expanded the state. Under Dušan's rule, Serbia was the major power in the Balkans and a multi-lingual empire that stretched from the Danube to the Gulf of Corinth, with its capital in Skopje. He also promoted the Serbian Archbishopric to the Serbian Patriarchate. His son and successor, Uroš the Weak, lost most of the territory conquered by Dušan, hence his epithet. The Serbian Empire effectively ended with the death of Uroš V in 1371 and the break-up of the Serbian state. Some successors of Stefan V claimed the title of Emperor in parts of Serbia until 1402, but the territory in Greece was never recovered. Dušan Kovačević ( sr-Cyrl, Душан Ковачевић, ; born 12 July 1948) is a Serbian playwright, scriptwriter, film director and academic best known for his theatre plays and movie scripts. He also served as the ambassador of Serbia in Lisbon, Portugal. Biography Kovačević was born in Mrđenovac near Šabac, PR Serbia, FPR Yugoslavia, graduated from Gymnasium Svetozar Marković, Svetozar Marković Gymnasium in Novi Sad, and received a bachelor's degree in dramaturgy from the University of Belgrade in 1973. From 1973, he worked as a dramaturge at ''TV Beograd'' for five years. Since 1998, he has been the artistic director of ''Zvezdara teatar''. In 2003 he directed his first movie, ''Profesionalac'' (''The Professional (2003 film), The Professional''). Kovačević's prolific work is well known and popular in Serbia. Dušan Makavejev ( sr-Cyrl, Душан Макавејев, ; 13 October 1932 – 25 January 2019) was a Serbian film director and screenwriter, famous for his groundbreaking films of Yugoslav cinema in the late 1960s and early 1970s—many of which belong to the Black Wave. Makavejev's most internationally successful film was the 1971 political satire '' W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism'', which he both directed and wrote. Dušan Matić (Serbian Cyrillic: Душан Матић; 31 August 1898 – 12 September 1980) was a Serbian poet who was active as part of the Belgrade surrealist group. Biography Early life Dušan Matić was born on 31 August 1898 in Ćuprija. His father was a civil servant from Jagodina, and his mother was from Kruševac. Due to his father's occupation, the Matić family moved frequently, spending time in Pirot, Čačak, Niš and Šabac. Just as he had started attending school in Šabac in 1912, the First Balkan War erupted. His family home was destroyed in the early days of World War I, after which the Matić family moved to Kruševac to stay with the family of Dušan's mother. Dušan "Duško" Bajević ( sr-Cyrl, Душан Бајевић, ; gr, Ντούσαν Μπάγεβιτς, ''Doúsan Báyevits''; born 10 December 1948) is a Bosnian professional Manager (association football), football manager and former player. Dušan Džamonja ( sr, Душан Џамоња, ; 31 January 1928 – 14 January 2009) was a Yugoslav sculptor of Serbian ancestry. Education and career Džamonja was born in 1928 in Strumica, former Vardar Banovina, Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In 1945, Džamonja began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb under the professors Vanja Radauš, Frano Kršinić and Antun Augustinčić, all notable artists. In 1951, he graduated in the master class of professor Antun Augustinčić. He worked in the Krsinic workshop from 1951 until 1953 when he started his own workshop in Zagreb.
