Dungonab Bay
Dungonab Bay or Dongonab Bay ( ar, خليج دونجوناب ''Ḫalīj Dūnjūnāb'') is a body of water on the coastline of Sudan on the Red Sea. Geography The Dungonab Bay is south-facing and is located 130 km to the north of Port Sudan. Its mid part, the Rawayah Lagoon, is surrounded by coral reefs. Together with Mukkawar Island and Sanganeb (an isolated coral reef), the area was declared the Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park and became a World Heritage Site in 2016. A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area with legal protection by an international convention administered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO for having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance. A bay is a recessed, coastal body of water that directly connects to a larger main body of water, such as an ocean, a lake, or another bay. A large bay is usually called a gulf, sea, sound, or bight. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated 147 World Heritage Sites in Africa. These sites are located in 46 countries (also called " state parties"). African Parks is a non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on conservation, established in 2000 and headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was founded as the African Parks Management and Finance Company, a private company, then underwent structural changes to become an NGO called African Parks Foundation, and later renamed African Parks Network. The organization manages national parks and protected areas throughout Africa, in collaboration with governments and surrounding communities.
