Dundas Station (Dundas, Ontario)
Dundas station was a passenger station in Dundas, Ontario, Canada. It was located halfway up the Niagara Escarpment west of downtown Dundas, near where Hamilton Regional Road 8 (formerly Ontario Highway 8) crosses under the railway tracks. History The Great Western Railway (GWR) put their line through Dundas in 1853, but it wasn't until 1864 that the first station was built. They algamated with the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR) in 1882, who constructed a new station building in 1904 and double tracked the line. The GTR was absorbed by the Canadian National Railway (CNR) in 1923. Via Rail continued to provide passenger train service to the station from 1977 until the mid 1980s. A fire seriously damaged the station in 1984 and it was decided to move the historic structure to a more suitable site. The building collapsed while it was being dismantled and it could not be saved. The Hamilton Street Railway commonly known as the HSR is a public transport agency in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The name is a legacy of the company's early period, when public transit in Hamilton was primarily served by streetcars. Niagara Escarpment
The Niagara Escarpment is a long escarpment, or cuesta, in Canada and the United States that runs predominantly east–west from New York through Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, and into Illinois. The escarpment is most famous as the cliff over which the Niagara River plunges at Niagara Falls, for which it is named. The escarpment is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The reserve has the oldest forest ecosystem and trees in eastern North America. The escarpment is not a fault line but the result of unequal erosion. Great Western Railway (Ontario)
The Great Western Railway was a railway that operated in Canada West, today's province of Ontario, Canada. It was the first railway chartered in the province, receiving its original charter as the London and Gore Railroad on March 6, 1834, before receiving its final name when it was rechartered in 1845. At its peak, the Great Western system stretched with its main operating base in Hamilton. The city at the head of Lake Ontario was pivotal in opening up the unpopulated and heavily wooded interior of what was then known as Canada West. International (Amtrak Train)
The ''International'' (formerly ''International Limited'') was a named passenger train operated between Chicago and Toronto. It was originally an overnight train operated by the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada and its successors the Canadian National Railway and Grand Trunk Western Railroad, running as far as Montreal. The train was cut back to Port Huron, Michigan, in 1970 and discontinued in 1971. In 1982, Amtrak and Via Rail revived the route by extending Amtrak's '' Blue Water Limited'' from Port Huron to Toronto. It was renamed as the ''International'' the next year.
