Duke Of Osuna
Duke of Osuna is a Spanish noble title that was first awarded in 1562 by King Philip II of Spain to Pedro Girón de la Cueva, (Osuna, Seville, 29 July 1537 – 1590). Pedro was also Viceroy of Naples, (1582–1586), Ambassador in Portugal and 5th Count of Ureña. The fortunes of the town of Osuna started to rise in the mid-15th century. At that time, Osuna was ruled by Pedro Girón Acuña Pacheco, the younger brother of Juan Pacheco. His son Alfonso Téllez-Girón de las Casas was elevated to Count of Ureña in 1464 by King Enrique IV of Castile. The dynasty's influence increased, obtaining the title of Duke of Osuna in 1562. Osuna became the Andalusian capital of the domains of the Téllez-Girón family, who carried the ducal title. Francisco María de Paula Téllez-Girón y Benavides (Madrid, 11 March 1678 – Paris, 3 April 1716), 6th Duke of Osuna, 6th Marquess of Peñafiel, 10th Count of Ureña, was a Spanish noble, diplomat and a Grandee of Spain. Biography He was the first surviving son of Gaspar Téllez-Girón, 5th Duke de Osuna, and his second wife, Ana Antonia de Benavides Carrillo y Toledo, Marquise of Caracena and Countess of Pinto. He inherited the titles of Chief Notary of the Kingdom of Castile (Notario mayor del reino) and Chief Waiter of the King (Camarero mayor del Rey) upon the death of his father in 1694. He also became the sixth Duke of Osuna. He served as Gentleman of the Chamber of King Carlos II of Spain. Juan Tellez-Girón y Enriquez de Ribera, 4th Duke of Osuna (15 November 1597 – 12 October 1656) was Viceroy of Sicily from 1655 to 1656. He was the only male descendant of Pedro Téllez-Girón, 3rd Duke of Osuna who was born in December 1579, and was Viceroy of Sicily from 1610 to 1615 and Viceroy of Naples from 1615 to 1620. His mother was Catalina Enriquez de Ribera y Cortés who died in November 1635 and was one of 3 daughters of Fernando Enriquez, 2nd Duke of Alcalá de los Gazules. Pedro Téllez-Girón y Fernández de Velasco or Pedro Girón (died Seville, April 25, 1531), was a Spanish noble, 3rd Count of Ureña and a leader of the Revolt of the Comuneros. He was the son of Juan Téllez-Girón, 2nd Count of Ureña and Leonor de la Vega Velasco, daughter of Pedro Fernández de Velasco, 2nd Count of Haro. He married Mencía de Guzmán, daughter of Juan Alfonso Pérez de Guzmán, 3rd Duke of Medina Sidonia. When his brother-in-law Enrique Pérez de Guzmán, 4th Duke of Medina Sidonia, died in 1512 without issue, Pedro Girón unsuccessfully claimed the title of Medina Sidonia through his wife. Pedro stated that Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, son of the third Duke and his second wife, was an illegitimate child.
