Dugald McDougall
Dugald McDougall (7 June 1834 - 19 January 1885) was an Irish-born Australian politician who served as the second Hawthorn Municipality Chairman a position which evolved into the Mayor of Hawthorn. Biography McDougall was born in Derry, Ireland, in 1834. He settled in the Colony of Victoria in Australia in 1852 and joined a business firm in which he became a partner in 1860 and in 1873 he became senior partner with the firm becoming well-known under the name Sands and McDougall The Sands Directories, also published as the Sands and Kenny Directory and the Sands and McDougall Directory were annual publications in Australia. Michael O'Grady (politician)
Michael O'Grady (16 October 1824 – 5 January 1876) K.S.G., M.L.A., was and Irish-born politician in Australia, member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Background O'Grady was born in Frenchpark, County Roscommon, Ireland, and went to London as a boy to push his fortune. In 1855 he was sent out to Sydney to establish a branch of the "People's Provident Society." The next year he removed to Melbourne and was connected with insurance business. Politics In 1861 O'Grady entered the Lower House of the Victorian Parliament as member for South Bourke, and was Vice-president Board Land & Works and Commissioner Public Works from 6 May 1868 to 11 July 1868 in the Charles Sladen Ministry. William Henry Pettett (4 September 1814 - 2 December 1871) was an English-born Australian politician who served as the Mayor of Hawthorn and as a member of the Legislative Council of Victoria for Southern Province. The Sands Directories, also published as the Sands and Kenny Directory and the Sands and McDougall Directory were annual publications in Australia. They listed household, business, society, and Government contacts in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney including some rural areas of Victoria and New South Wales from the 1850s. City directories are an important resource for historical research, allowing individual addresses and occupations to be linked to specific streets and suburbs. Publisher John Sands (1818-1873) was an engraver, printer and stationer. Born in England he moved to Sydney in 1837.
