William Henry Pettett
William Henry Pettett (4 September 1814 - 2 December 1871) was an English-born Australian politician who served as the Mayor of Hawthorn and as a member of the Legislative Council of Victoria for Southern Province. Biography Pettett was born in Greenwich, London, in 1814. He moved to Australia arriving in Tasmania in 1832 and he moved to Victoria in 1837 landing in Geelong. Dugald McDougall (7 June 1834 - 19 January 1885) was an Irish-born Australian politician who served as the second Hawthorn Municipality Chairman a position which evolved into the Mayor of Hawthorn. Lauchlan Mackinnon
Lauchlan Mackinnon (26 February 1817 – 21 March 1888) was a pastoralist, politician and newspaper proprietor in colonial Australia. Mackinnon one of the most enterprising of the pioneer colonists of Victoria (Australia) and one of the proprietors of the Melbourne ''Argus'' from 1852 until his death. The Victorian Legislative Council (VLC) is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria, Australia, the lower house being the Legislative Assembly. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The Legislative Council serves as a house of review, in a similar fashion to its federal counterpart, the Australian Senate. Although, it is possible for legislation to be first introduced in the Council, most bills receive their first hearing in the Legislative Assembly. The presiding officer of the chamber is the President of the Legislative Council. The Council presently comprises 40 members serving four-year terms from eight electoral regions each with five members. Southern Province (Victoria)
Southern Province (also known as South Province) was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. Southern Province was created in 1856, after the colony of Victoria obtained self-government. It was one of the six original Legislative Council provinces of the newly established bicameral Victorian Parliament. Southern Province was finally abolished in 1970, after Boronia Province and Templestowe Province were created in 1967. Thomas Power (Australian Politician)
Thomas Herbert Power (29 July 1802 – 28 November 1873) was an auctioneer, pastoral agent and politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), a member of the Victorian Legislative Council. Power was born in Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary, Ireland. His parents were David Power, a merchant, and Bridget, ''née'' Higgins. Power emigrated to the Port Phillip District in 1839 via Launceston, Tasmania. He was an auctioneer in Melbourne from 1839 to 1843 and again in 1846; he was also a squatter in Boroondara in the early 1840s. Power was elected to the Southern Province of the new Legislative Council in November 1856, a seat he held until 1 September 1864. Power was a director of the National Bank of Australasia in 1860–1866 and a commissioner of the Savings Bank of Victoria. Thomas Ferrier Hamilton
Thomas Ferrier Hamilton (31 March 1820 – 7 August 1905) was an Australian politician, pastoralist, and sportsman. A grandson of the 2nd Viscount Gort, he was born in Linlithgowshire, Scotland, but emigrated to Australia in 1839. Hamilton and his cousin, John Carre Riddell, owned a pastoral lease near Gisborne, Victoria. A local magistrate and justice of the peace, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council in 1872, sitting as a member for the Southern Province until 1884. He also sat on the Gisborne Road Board, including as chairman for a time. A member (and twice president) of the Melbourne Cricket Club, Hamilton was a keen cricketer, and played several matches for Victorian representative teams, including the inaugural first-class match in Australia. Little River, Victoria
Little River is a town in Victoria, Australia, approximately south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Greater Geelong and Wyndham local government areas. Little River recorded a population of 1,353 at the 2021 census. History The Little River has headwaters in the nearby Brisbane Ranges. It was also known as the Cocoroc Rivulet, Cocoroc being a locality near the area. William John Turner Clarke, M.L.C. (20 April 1805 – 13 January 1874), was an Australian politician, member of the Victorian Legislative Council November 1856 to January 1861 and January 1863 to November 1870.
