Dudley & Stourbridge Harriers is an athletics club founded in 1924. Originally established as Dudley Harriers, it took on its current name through the amalgamation with Stourbridge, Wordsley and District Harriers. The Dell Stadium has been the home of training and competition for the club since its opening in 1964. __TOC__ History The history of many athletics clubs within the Midlands can trace their history back to Birchfield Harriers. Prior to 1924 athletics clubs could have multiple branches across a region. On September 24, 1910, at the Annual General Meeting of the Birchfield Harriers Tipton branch, Tipton Harriers became independent. As their membership grew club branches were founded at Wolverhampton, Dudley, Wednesbury and Cradley Heath. In 1924 the M.C.A.A.A banned the practice of having club branches. Stourbridge is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley in the West Midlands, England, situated on the River Stour. Wordsley
Wordsley is a suburban area of Stourbridge in the West Midlands, England. It is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley and falls into the Stourbridge (DY8) postcode and address area, being just north of the River Stour. Wordsley is part of the Dudley South Parliamentary constituency. It is bordered by open countryside to the west, Kingswinford to the North, Brierley Hill to the East and Stourbridge to the South. Birchfield Harriers is an athletics club, founded in 1877. Its home is at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium, England. As well as welcoming recreational runners they cater for all levels of experience up to and including Olympic athletes whether able-bodied or wheelchair-using athletes. The Club's motto is ''Fleet and Free''. History The Harriers were named after the Birchfield district of Birmingham. Tipton Harriers
{{Use dmy dates, date=April 2022 Tipton Harriers were created in September 1910, when the members of the Tipton branch of Birchfield Harriers resolved to end their connection and become independent. Soon, over 40 members were meeting and training regularly from a former painters' workshop and store in a loft behind a shop and houses in Waterloo Street. These primitive facilities, sparsely furnished, using two 18 feet square, 8 inches deep beer cooling vats as baths with water heated in an old copper washing boiler, remained the club H.Q. until 1936. The house where the formation took place was demolished in the 1960s. Much of this happened despite serious bomb damage during the Zeppelin raids in 1916 and the obstruction of the non-improving landlady. Wednesbury () is a market town in Sandwell in the county of West Midlands, England. It is located near the source of the River Tame.
