Doug McFarlane
Douglas Thomas McFarlane (January 4, 1918 – May 6, 1999) was a farmer, civil servant and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Qu'Appelle-Wolseley from 1956 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, the son of Andrew and Ella McFarlane, and was educated in Summerberry. McFarlane worked on the family farm and then served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. In 1945, he married Frances Davidson. After the war, he farmed in the Peebles district. McFarlane served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Municipal Affairs and as Minister of Agriculture. He was defeated by Terry Hanson when he ran for reelection to the provincial assembly in 1971. After retiring from politics, he joined the War Veterans Appeal Board, moving to Ottawa. Qu'Appelle-Wolseley
Qu'Appelle-Wolseley is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. This district was created before the 8th Saskatchewan general election in 1934 by combining the constituencies of South Qu'Appelle and Wolseley. Redrawn and renamed "Indian Head-Wolseley" in 1975, the riding was dissolved before the 23rd Saskatchewan general election in 1995. It is now part of the Indian Head-Milestone and Regina Wascana Plains constituencies. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. The Saskatchewan Liberal Party is a liberal political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The party was the provincial affiliate of the Liberal Party of Canada until 2009. Wolseley, Saskatchewan
Wolseley (Canada 2011 Census population 864) is a town in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately 100 km east of Regina, Saskatchewan, Regina on the Trans-Canada Highway. History Wolseley's Provincial Court House building was constructed in 1893, and is the oldest surviving court house building in the province. The Wolseley Town Hall and Opera House, Town Hall and Opera House, built in 1906, is a classic building and is used for many community events. Canada's first Beaver Lumber was opened in Wolseley by co-founder E. A. Banbury in 1883. Beaver Lumber is now protected by Heritage status. The Banbury House Inn, which was originally built in 1905 as the private home for E. A. Banbury, was moved from its original location on the north bank of Fairly Lake to the west end of Wolseley to allow expansion of Lakeside Care Home in the 1980s.
