Double Barrel Benefit
Double Barrel Benefit (DBB), is WKNC-FM's annual fundraiser that provides for two nights of music from local North Carolina based bands. The benefit series was first organized by former General Manager Jamie Procter and held January 4–5, 2004 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The benefit changed locations for the first time in 2008, when the venue changed from Kings Barcade to The Pour House.http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/double-barrel-benefit-no-5/ The concert returned to the newly reopened Kings Barcade in 2011 and then returned to The Pour House in 2012. In 2014, the show split weekends and venues, holding the event at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh and Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. The event returned to the same weekend and venue in 2017. There was no Double Barrel Benefit show held in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WKNC-FM
WKNC-FM (88.1 FM) is North Carolina State University's student-run, non-commercial college radio station broadcasting from Raleigh, North Carolina in the United States. Broadcasting with an effective radiated power of 25,000 watts, its signal covers much of the Research Triangle and outlying areas. The station is operated as part of the Department of Student Media at N.C. State and students hold all roles from DJ to general manager. The primary weekday format is indie rock, with specialty shows and other music genres featured during the evenings and weekends. Programming WKNC HD-1 and HD-2 are classified as a variety radio station by Nielsen Audio, providing block programming divided into four main formats: Daytime Rock (primarily indie rock), Afterhours (electronic), Underground ( hip-hop), and Chainsaw Rock ( heavy metal). Bowerbirds (band)
Bowerbirds is an American folk band formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, in 2006. The group comprises Philip Moore (vocals, guitar), Beth Tacular (accordion, vocals) and Mark Paulson (violin, vocals). Allmusic writer Stewart Mason places their sound on "the dividing line between the freak folk contingent led by Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom and the more straightforward sunshine pop of Lavender Diamond." Their debut album, ''Hymns for a Dark Horse'', released under Burly Time Records in 2007, received favorable reviews from publications such as Pitchfork, Time Out New York and Prefix Magazine. Daniel Bachman
Daniel Bachman (born 1989) is an American Primitive guitarist, drone musician, and independent scholar from Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States. Career Bachman's first projects were released under the moniker Sacred Harp. In 2011, Bachman released Grey-Black-Green, his first release under his own name. Although primarily a solo player, Bachman has also worked with several collaborators across various projects, including full collaborative albums with the guitarist Ryley Walker and multi-instrumentalist Ian McColm. Critical reception In 2015, ''Rolling Stone'' named Bachman one of "10 Artists You Need to Know." Bombadil (band)
Bombadil is a four-piece Americana, folk-pop band from Durham, North Carolina with guitar, bass, piano, and drums as their primary instruments. The band is known for their creative and heartfelt lyrics, lush vocal harmonies, thoughtful arrangements, and engaging live show. History Bombadil began in early 2005 after guitarist Bryan Rahija and bassist Daniel Michalak were studying abroad in Bolivia as students at Duke University. They recorded several demos at an elementary school in La Paz during their spare time. After returning to the U.S., Michalak recruited his brother John to write drum parts. The Kingsbury Manx
The Kingsbury Manx is an American indie rock group from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States. History The original members of The Kingsbury Manx met in middle school. They then attended different colleges and reunited during the summer months to play and record together. One of their demos caught the ear of Chicago-based label Overcoat Recordings, who issued their debut self-titled album in 2000. Despite little promotional effort from the label, the album became a cult success, including recognition in UK music magazine ''NME'' 's Top 50 of 2000. Mez formerly known as King Mez (born Morris W. Ricks II) is an American rapper, producer, writer and director. He is perhaps best known for his work with Dr. Dre and on the 2019 rap album ''Revenge of the Dreamers III''. He was born on a military base in Fort Campbell, KY and grew up in Southeast Raleigh, NC. Hammer No More the Fingers is a three-piece rock band from Durham, North Carolina. Spider Bags
Spider Bags is an alternative rock band from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The band was founded by Daniel McGee and Gregg Levy in 2006 after McGee's old band, the DC Snipers, broke up. Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles has described Spider Bags as "America’s most underrated band". Their debut album, ''A Celebration of Hunger'', was recorded over a two-day period in February 2005 in Chapel Hill, and was released in 2007.
