Doomdark's Revenge
''Doomdark's Revenge'' is a role-playing and wargame video game developed by Mike Singleton and published by Beyond Software for the ZX Spectrum in 1984. It is a sequel to Singleton's 1984 seminal '' The Lords of Midnight'' and has similar game mechanics but adds more detail and complexity with the number of characters and locations increased. In ''Doomdark's Revenge'', the hero of the first game, Luxor the Moonprince, goes into the savage wastes of Icemark to rescue his son Morkin and defeat the evil Empress Shareth, daughter of his enemy Doomdark. Despite the title, Doomdark - who was killed in the first game - does not return in the sequel. Like its predecessor, ''Doomdark's Revenge'' was a major critical success and a commercial hit. Ports to the Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64 were released in 1986. It was supposed to be followed by a sequel titled ''The Eye of the Moon'' in 1989, which was never finished. Mike Singleton
Mike Singleton (21 February 1951 – 10 October 2012) was a British video game designer who wrote various well-regarded titles for the ZX Spectrum during the 1980s. His titles include '' The Lords of Midnight'', ''Doomdark's Revenge'', ''Dark Sceptre'', '' War in Middle Earth'' and ''Midwinter''. Before developing video games, Singleton was an English teacher in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England. Early work Singleton was originally a teacher and started programming in the late 1970s, and writing ''Computer Race'', a horse racing game he designed for a betting shop on the Commodore PET. Moving on from this, he began working on arcade games for the Pet, working with PetSoft, where he wrote ''Space Ace'' entirely in 6502 machine code. The game broke sales records of the day by selling three hundred copies. Gamebook
A gamebook is a work of printed fiction that allows the reader to participate in the story by making choices. The narrative branches along various paths, typically through the use of numbered paragraphs or pages. Each narrative typically does not follow paragraphs in a linear or ordered fashion.
