Donetsk Regional State Administration Building
The Donetsk Regional State Administration Building in Donetsk is the primary government headquarters (referred to as the Donetsk Regional State Administration; uk, Донецька обласна державна адміністрація) of Donetsk Oblast, a province located eastern Ukraine. It is located in the city's Voroshilov Raion, along the Pushkin Boulevard. It is currently controlled by the Donetsk People's Republic. 2014 protests In March and April 2014, the building was the site of a number of pro-Russian protests. Pro-Russian protesters occupied the Donetsk RSA from March 1 to March 6, 2014, before being removed by the Security Service of Ukraine. During that time, Pavel Gubarev declared himself the "People's Governor" of the oblast and was subsequently arrested. Donetsk ( , ; uk, Донецьк, translit=Donets'k ; russian: Донецк ), formerly known as Aleksandrovka, Yuzivka (or Hughesovka), Stalin and Stalino (see also: Names of European cities in different languages (C–D), cities' alternative names), is an industrial city in eastern Ukraine located on the Kalmius River in Donetsk Oblast. The Donetsk Oblast ( ukr, Донецька область, Donetska oblast, ), also referred to as Donechchyna ( ukr, Донеччина, links=no), is an oblast of eastern Ukraine. It is Ukraine's most populous province, with around 4.1 million residents. Pavel Gubarev
Pavel Yuryevich Gubarev (russian: Па́вел Ю́рьевич Гу́барев, ; or Pavlo Yuriyovych Hubariev uk, Павло Юрійович Губарєв; born 10 February 1983) is a Russian activist who proclaimed himself the "People's Governor" of the Donetsk Region at the Regional Assembly on 3 March 2014, after separatists seized the building. Gubarev had earlier declared himself leader of the Donbas People's Militia. Since then, he has been sidelined by other separatist leaders and was banned from taking part in the 2014 Donbas parliamentary elections.
