Donald Grant (surveyor)
Donald Morrison Grant is a professional surveyor and the former Surveyor-General of New South Wales. Early life Grant was born in Bairnsdale, Victoria in 1934. He attended St Patrick's College, Ballarat, Victoria. Public Service Career Grant was appointed Chief Surveyor, Adelaide City Council in 1965. In 1980, he was appointed Assistant Surveyor-General in the South Australian Lands Department and was later promoted to Deputy Surveyor-General. In 1986, he was appointed Surveyor-General of New South Wales and remained in that position until he retired in 2000. Military service Grant is a graduate of the Officer Cadet School, Portsea, class June 1954. He was commissioned into the Royal Australian Engineers and served for eight years in the Regular Army. After leaving the Regular Army he continued service in the Army Reserve attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Bairnsdale () ( Ganai: ''Wy-yung'') is a city in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia in a region traditionally owned by the Tatungalung clan of the Gunaikurnai people. Officer Cadet School, Portsea
The Officer Cadet School, Portsea (sometimes referred to as OCS Portsea) was an officer training establishment of the Australian Army. Established at Portsea in Victoria, Australia, in 1951 to provide training to officer cadets prior to commissioning, for many years OCS provided the Australian Regular Army with the bulk of its junior officers. However, following a review of military training establishments in Australia in the mid-1980s, the school was eventually closed in 1985, as the Royal Military College, Duntroon, assumed sole responsibility for training Army officers. The Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) is the military engineering corps of the Australian Army (although the word corps does not appear in their name or on their badge). The RAE is ranked fourth in seniority of the corps of the Australian Army, behind the Staff Cadets, Armoured and Artillery Corps. The Reserve Force Decoration (postnominal RFD) is an Australian Military award given for long service by officers of the Reserve Forces. It is part of the suite of defence force service awards introduced in 1982, which also included the Defence Force Service Medal (DFSM, for all members of the permanent forces) and the Reserve Force Medal (RFM, for non-commissioned members of the Reserve forces). However, the RFD is the only one of the three to carry a postnominal entitlement. All three medals were replaced with effect 20 April 1999 with a single medal, the Defence Long Service Medal, which is now awarded to all permanent and reserve members irrespective of rank.
