Dom Mariani
Domenic Desio Mariani (born 27 July 1958) is an Australian guitarist, vocalist, producer, and songwriter. Mariani has been a member of several bands since the early 1980s, including The Stems, The Someloves, DM3, Datura, The Majestic Kelp and the Domnicks. The Stems is the best-known and most successful of Mariani's projects. Australian musicologist Ian McFarlane described the power pop group as "one of the best live bands on the Australian scene". In 2005 Mariani was inducted into the West Australian Music Industry Awards Hall of Fame. In August of that year he curated a double-CD compilation album, ''Popsided Guitar: Anthology 1984–2004'', which included material from several of his bands. In 2007 United States writer John M. West Australian Music Industry Awards
The Western Australian Music Industry Awards (commonly known as WAMis) are annual awards presented to the local contemporary music industry, put on by the Western Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM). The WAMi Awards are Western Australia Music's night of nights, bringing together local music fans and members of local, national and international industry to acknowledge and celebrate another year of achievements for Western Australia. History WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. The Flairz
The Flairz were an Australian garage rock band from Perth. They were formed as a trio in late 2003 by pre-teens, Dion Mariani on guitar, bass guitar and vocals, his cousin, John Mariani on guitar, bass guitar and vocals, and Scarlett Stevens on drums and vocals. Late in 2006 Georgia Wilkinson-Derums joined on bass guitar. Pipeline (instrumental)
"Pipeline" is a surf rock instrumental by The Chantays (credited as "Chantay's"), which was recorded in July 1962. History The tune, originally called "Liberty's Whip" after ''The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'', was renamed after the band members saw a surfing movie showing scenes of the Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. The record, fitting in with the popular surfing craze of the time, swiftly rose up the Billboard Pop charts, reaching #4 and becoming a classic 1960s hit. The tune featured Alberti bass arpeggios. Although they had myriad surf tunes, "Pipeline" was The Chantays' only hit single, and is considered one of the landmarks of the surf genre. Big Star
Big Star was an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton (vocals, guiar), Chris Bell (vocals, guitar), Jody Stephens (drums), and Andy Hummel (bass). The group broke up in early 1975, and reorganized with a new lineup 18 years later following a reunion concert at the University of Missouri. In its first era, the band's musical style drew on the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Byrds. Big Star produced a style that foreshadowed the alternative rock of the 1980s and 1990s. Badfinger
Badfinger were a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea, who were active from the 1960s to the 1980s. Their best-known lineup consisted of Pete Ham (vocals, guitar), Mike Gibbins (drums), Tom Evans (bass), and Joey Molland (guitar). They are recognised for their influence on the 1970s power pop genre. It is estimated that the band sold 14 million records. The Raspberries were an American pop rock band formed in 1970 from Cleveland, Ohio.
