Dogwood Invitational
The Dogwood Invitational is an amateur golf championship played annually at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1941, the goal of the Dogwood is to promote the game of amateur golf and support junior golf organizations. The tournament is run by The Dogwood Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. The Dogwood Invitation has consistently been a "Category B" tournament in the World Amateur Golf Ranking which means that it is one of the top 150 men's events world-wide based on strength-of-field. The 18-hole, par-72 course at Druid Hills is 6,860 yards from the Dogwood Tees with a slope of 139 and 73.5 rating. The field is created via invitation only and is supplemented with an 18-hole open qualifier, during tournament week. Golfers are required to have a USGA handicap index of seven or lower in order to be considered for participation in the qualifier. Druid Hills Golf Club
The Druid Hills Golf Club is a private country club located in the Druid Hills, Georgia, Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The course has frequently hosted U.S. Women's Open qualifying tournaments. History Founded in 1912, the club's facilities include golf, dining, tennis, fitness, and swimming. In December 1921, Charles Mayo (golfer), Charles Mayo accepted a position as head professional at Druid Hills. He replaced the late J. Douglas Edgar. Edgar's death was mysterious. He was found late at night on West Peachtree Street in Atlanta, bleeding heavily from a deep wound in his leg, and died in the street before any trained help could arrive. The case was turned over to police, but never solved. In May 1924 the clubhouse was gutted by fire for a $100,000 loss but was promptly rebuilt. Brian Harman
Brian Harman (born January 19, 1987) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He is one of the few ambidextrous players on tour. Amateur career In college, Harman was a three-time 2nd Team All-American on the University of Georgia golf team. He won the 2005 NCAA Preview and the 2006 Isleworth Invitational. He also won the yearly award for highest Grade Point Average three times. In 2003, Harman won the U.S. Junior Amateur. He won the Players Amateur in 2005, and the Porter Cup in 2007, shooting a tournament record 22-under-par 258. Harman played on the winning 2005 and 2009 Walker Cup and 2007 Palmer Cup teams. Michael Kirk is a documentary filmmaker and partial creator of the PBS show ''Frontline'', where he worked as senior producer until 1987. Kirk founded and currently owns the production company, the Kirk Documentary Group, in Brookline, Massachusetts, which has produced dozens of award-winning documentaries, both for ''Frontline'' and through his company, that focus on political, social and cultural issues. Kirk has produced more than 200 national television programs since 1984. He is a former Nieman Fellow in Journalism at Harvard University. Kyle Thompson
Kyle Thompson (born April 25, 1979) is a former American professional golfer. Professional career Thompson is a former member of the PGA Tour. He played on the PGA Tour in 2018, 2012 and 2008, failing to keep his card each time. Thompson was a member of the Nationwide Tour from 2003 to 2007. He won two events in 2007 which put him in the top 25 on the money list which earned him a PGA Tour card for 2008. He returned to the Nationwide Tour in 2009 after making nine cuts in 26 events. Andrew Buckle
Andrew Nicholas Buckle (born 24 September 1982) is an Australian professional golfer. Buckle was born in Brisbane, Queensland. He had a promising amateur career, including two wins in the Boy's 15–17 division at the World Junior Golf Championships and the Australian Amateur. Buckle won the 2002 Queensland Open on his professional debut. As a professional, he has plied his trade all over the world, including time on the PGA Tour of Australasia and appearances in Europe and Japan. Lee Williams (golfer)
Lee Williams (born December 27, 1981) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. Williams was born in Alexander City, Alabama. He had a successful amateur career, representing the United States in the Walker Cup in 2003 and 2005. He played college golf at Auburn University and turned professional after graduating in 2005. Williams played on the US Pro Golf Tour and the NGA Pro Golf Tour before settling into the Nationwide Tour in 2012. He picked up his first win on the Nationwide Tour on June 10 at the Mexico Open. Chris Nallen (born April 9, 1982) is an American professional golfer. Nallen was born in Queens, New York but he grew up in Hackettstown, New Jersey. In high school, Nallen went to Blair Academy where he excelled as one of top golfers in the state. He played college golf at the University of Arizona where he won six tournaments and was a four-time All-American. He also won the 2003 Northeast Amateur and the 2004 Dogwood Invitational.
