Dockyard And Engineering Works Limited
Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) Limited is a ship construction and repair yard at the Narayanganj, Bangladesh owned by the Government of Bangladesh under Ministry of Defence (Bangladesh), Ministry of Defence and managed by the Bangladesh Navy. The yard built many small to medium-sized patrol boats for the Bangladesh Coast Guard and landing craft for the Bangladesh Navy. History The shipyard was founded in 1922. Initially, it was a profit-making institution which continued after the independence of Bangladesh. But it experienced a period of loss starting from the nineties. As a result, it was laid off in 2002. On 7 December 2007, the yard was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy. From then, it is regaining its standard. This shipyard has constructed the Pabna Class riverine patrol boats from 1972 to 1977, which are the first Bangladesh made warships. The Khulna Shipyard Limited ( bn, ) is a Bangladeshi state owned defense contractor based in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is located on 68.97 acres of land at Labanchara, Khulna, Bangladesh. It is about 45 km north from the Port of Mongla. The shipyard has the capacity to build steel / aluminium ships up to 90 m length and 700 tons lightweight. The ''Sobuj Bangla'' class is a class of Patrol boat, inshore patrol vessel (IPV) family of the Bangladesh Coast Guard built in three batches. The ''Pabna'' class is the class of a riverine patrol crafts in service in Bangladesh. The ships of this class are the first ever made in Bangladesh warships. They are operated by the Bangladesh Coast Guard. History The ''Pabna''-class patrol craft were built at Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited. This ships were the first ships of the Bangladesh Navy. The Bangladesh Coast Guard ( bn, বাংলাদেশ কোস্ট গার্ড; BCG) is the maritime law enforcement force of Bangladesh. It is a paramilitary force which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
