Pabna Class
The ''Pabna'' class is the class of a riverine patrol crafts in service in Bangladesh. The ships of this class are the first ever made in Bangladesh warships. They are operated by the Bangladesh Coast Guard. History The ''Pabna''-class patrol craft were built at Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited. This ships were the first ships of the Bangladesh Navy. Later on, in 1995, after the emergence of Bangladesh Coast Guard, the ships were transferred to them. Design The ships are in length, in breadth and in draught. They have a displacement of 75 tons and a complement of 33 personnel. The ships carry one Bofors 40 mm gun of 60 calibers as armament. The crafts can be used for both coastal and riverine patrol. Dockyard And Engineering Works Limited
Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) Limited is a ship construction and repair yard at the Narayanganj, Bangladesh owned by the Government of Bangladesh under Ministry of Defence (Bangladesh), Ministry of Defence and managed by the Bangladesh Navy. The yard built many small to medium-sized patrol boats for the Bangladesh Coast Guard and landing craft for the Bangladesh Navy. History The shipyard was founded in 1922. Initially, it was a profit-making institution which continued after the independence of Bangladesh. But it experienced a period of loss starting from the nineties. As a result, it was laid off in 2002. On 7 December 2007, the yard was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy. From then, it is regaining its standard. The Bofors 40 mm Automatic Gun L/60 (often referred to simply as the "Bofors 40 mm gun", the "Bofors gun" and the like, see name) is an anti-aircraft autocannon, designed in the 1930s by the Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors. The gun was designed as an intermediate anti-aircraft gun, filling the gap between fast firing close-range small calibre anti-aircraft guns and slower firing long-range high calibre anti-aircraft guns, a role which previously was filled by older outdated guns. The Bofors 40 mm L/60 was for its time perfectly suited for this role and outperformed competing designs in the years leading up to World War II in both effectiveness and reliability. The Bangladesh Coast Guard ( bn, বাংলাদেশ কোস্ট গার্ড; BCG) is the maritime law enforcement force of Bangladesh. It is a paramilitary force which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its officers and sailors are transferred from Bangladesh Navy, and most of the medical officers are transferred from Bangladesh Army. The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel). The draught of the vessel is the maximum depth of any part of the vessel, including appendages such as rudders, propellers and drop keels if deployed. Draft determines the minimum depth of water a ship or boat can safely navigate. The related term air draft is the maximum height of any part of the vessel above the water. The displacement or displacement tonnage of a ship is its weight. As the term indicates, it is measured indirectly, using Archimedes' principle, by first calculating the volume of water displaced by the ship, then converting that value into weight.
