Division (Sweden)
An army division or division ( sv, Arméfördelning or ''Fördelning'') was during the 1900s in the Swedish Army a designation for a larger military unit, comprising two or more brigades, an artillery regiment, an engineer battalion, an anti-aircraft battalion, a signal battalion and a transport battalion. An ''arméfördelning'' corresponds to a division in many countries' armies, and it has been common to also use the word "division" in Swedish when referring to foreign rather than Swedish military units. The last divisions were disbanded through the Defence Act of 2000 and were replaced between 2000 and 2004 as a transition period of the 1st Mechanized Division (''1. mekaniserade divisionen''). Swedish Army
The Swedish Army ( sv, svenska armén) is the land force of the Swedish Armed Forces. History Svea Life Guards dates back to the year 1521, when the men of Dalarna chose 16 young able men as body guards for the insurgent nobleman Gustav Vasa in the Swedish War of Liberation against the Danish-dominated Union of Kalmar, thus making the present-day Life Guards one of the world's oldest regiments still on active duty. In 1901, Sweden introduced conscription. The conscription system was abolished in 2010 but reinstated in 2017. Organisation The peace-time organisation of the Swedish Army is divided into a number of regiments for the different branches. The number of active regiments has been reduced since the end of the Cold War. However the Swedish Army has begun to expand once again. Kristianstad (, ; older spelling from Danish language, Danish ''Christianstad'') is a Urban areas in Sweden, city and the seat of Kristianstad Municipality, Scania County, Sweden with 40,145 inhabitants in 2016. During the last 15 years, it has gone from a garrison town to a developed commercial city, today attracting visitors in the summertime mainly from Germany, Denmark and The Netherlands. Eastern Army Division
The Eastern Army Division ( sv, Östra arméfördelningen, 4. förd), was a division of the Swedish Army that operated in various forms from 1941 to 2000. Its staff was located in Strängnäs Garrison in Strängnäs. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000. History The Eastern Army Division was raised on 1 August 1941 as the IV Division (''IV. fördelningen''). The division was together with the XIV Division directly subordinate to the military commander of the IV Military District, while the Svea Life Guards was responsible for raising and mobilization of the army division staff. In 1957, the mobilization responsibility for the division was transferred to the Göta Life Guards, and in 1970 to the Uppland Regiment. Karlstad
Karlstad (, ) is the 20th-largest city in Sweden, the seat of Karlstad Municipality, the capital of Värmland County, and the largest city in the province Värmland in Sweden. The city proper had 65,856 inhabitants in 2020 with 95,167 inhabitants in the wider municipality in 2021, and is the 21st biggest municipality in Sweden. Karlstad has a university and a cathedral. Bergslagen Military District ( sv, Bergslagens militärområde, Milo B), originally V Military District ( sv, V. militärområdet) was a Swedish military district, a command of the Swedish Armed Forces that had operational control over the informal Bergslagen region, for most time of its existence corresponding to the area covered by the counties of Värmland, Örebro and Kopparberg (now Dalarna County). The headquarters of Milo B were located in Karlstad. History Milo B was created in 1966 along with five other military districts as part of a reorganisation of the administrative divisions of the Swedish Armed Forces. Boden Garrison
Boden Garrison ( sv, Bodens garnison) is a major garrison in Sweden, located in and around Boden, Sweden, Boden in Norrbotten County. The garrison has during the 20th century been, and still is, the largest garrison in Sweden, consisting of several units of the Swedish Armed Forces as well as Boden Fortress. History Before the decision to construct Boden Fortress, there was no permanently stationed military unit in Boden. The main military presence were the four Swedish allotment system, tenement soldiers of Bodens kompani (Boden Company)—part of Norrbotten Regiment (I 19)—that lived in the locality. The Lower Northern Army Division ( sv, Nedre norra arméfördelningen, 2. förd), was a division of the Swedish Army which operated in various forms from 1941 to 1997. Its staff was located in Östersund Garrison in Östersund. History The Lower Northern Army Division was raised on 1 August 1941 as the XII Division (''XII. fördelningen''), a doubling division of the II Army Division (''II. arméfördelningen''). The army division was directly subordinate to the military commander of the II Military District, while the Jämtland Ranger Regiment was responsible for raising and mobilization of the army division staff. Ystad
Ystad (; older da, Ysted) is a town and the seat of Ystad Municipality, in Scania County, Sweden. Ystad had 18,350 inhabitants in 2010. The settlement dates from the 11th century and has become a busy ferryport, local administrative centre, and tourist attraction. Strängnäs is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Strängnäs Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 15,363 inhabitants in 2020. It is located by Lake Mälaren and is the episcopal see of the Diocese of Strängnäs, one of the thirteen dioceses of the Church of Sweden.
