Disco Pistol
Disco Pistol were an English pop punk band active in the late 1990s. The band was formed in 1996 and consisted of lead vocalist, Mira Manga, lead guitarist Kevin Baxter, keyboard player Hyper Helen, bass player Craig Page and Marky Sparky on drums. The band were gathered together by 'Glitter Scene' svengalis Kevin Wilde and Hifi, who ran the influential Club Skinny at the Camden Lock HQ. It was at this club that Manga was spotted and others replied to ads in the ''NME''. The band were invited to add their track "Supersexy Revolutionary" to the ''And The Rest Is History'' compilation of 'C96' bands (alongside Kenickie, Helen Love, Symposium, Midget, Period Pains, etc.). The track was also released on Xerox Records as a b-side to first single "Saturday Everyday". The follow-up, double A-side single "Say Something" / "Solid Gold Radio" was released by ORG Records. Kenickie
Kenickie were an English four-piece pop punk band from Sunderland. The band was formed in 1994 and consisted of lead vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Lauren Laverne (b. Lauren Gofton), drummer Johnny X (real name Pete Gofton, Lauren's brother), lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist Marie du Santiago (b. Anne Marie Nixon) and bass guitarist Emmy-Kate Montrose (b. Emma Jackson). The band's name comes from their favourite character in the film '' Grease''. Helen Love are an indie band from Wales whose music is a combination of punk rock, bubblegum pop and disco dance music. Symposium are an English punk pop band. They were active from 1994 to 2000 and were known for their live shows. The name 'Symposium' originally referred to a drinking party (the Greek verb sympotein means "to drink together"), and was taken from the philosophical dialogue by Plato. Midget are an English pop-rock band from Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, who formed in 1996. The trio released the mini-album "Alco-pop" and the albums ''Jukebox'', ''Individual Inconsistent'' and ''The Milgram Experiment''. Period Pains
Period Pains were a British all-female indie punk band formed in 1996. They gained attention in 1997 after releasing the single "Spice Girls (Who Do You Think You Are?)". They then recorded a session for John Peel, which was subsequently released as an EP. They opened the Reading Festival in 1997 on the Dr. Marten's Stage. Chloe Alper went on to co-found Pure Reason Revolution. Felicity Aldridge moved into film production working for the acclaimed Director/Producer, Nick Weschler. Spice Girls (Who Do You Think You Are?) The band achieved notoriety in 1997 after releasing the single "Spice Girls (Who Do You Think You Are?)", a play on the Spice Girls' single title. Reading Festival
The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of a historic house. Headliners and most supporting acts typically play at both sites, with Reading's Friday line up becoming Leeds' Saturday line-up, Reading's Saturday line-up playing at Leeds on Sunday, and Leeds' Friday line-up attending Reading on Sunday.
