Dinder, Sudan
Dinder ( ar, الدندر) is a town in the Sennar state in eastern Sudan. It is within a large loop of the Dinder River, on the western side. States Of Sudan
Below is a list of the 18 states of the Sudan (Arabic names are in parentheses). Prior to 9 July 2011, the Republic of the Sudan was composed of 25 states. The ten southern states now form part of the independent country of South Sudan. Two additional states were created in 2012 within the Darfur region, and one in 2013 in Kordofan, bringing the total to 18. Sennar (state)
Sennar ( ') is one of the 18 wilayat or states of Sudan. It has an area of 37,844 km² and a population of approximately 1,100,000 (2000). Location Sinar State is delimited by Al-Gazira State in the north, The Blue Nile State in the south, Al-Gedaref State and the Sudanese Ethiopian borders in the east, and the White Nile State & the Upper Nile State of South Sudan in the west. It remains unknown whether Singa is the capital of Sennar State or whether the largest city Sennar (also known as Mukwar) is the capital, as some sources and maps list Singa and some list Sennar city. Dinder River
The Dinder River ( ar, نهر الدندر Nahr-ud-dindir, also spelled Dindar; ) is a tributary of the Blue Nile. It flows through Ethiopia and Sudan for . Course The Dinder River rises in the Ethiopian Highlands, west of Lake Tana in the Ethiopian woreda of Alefa. It flows northwest out of the highlands and into the plains of the Sudanese state of Sennar. It meanders across the plains to join the Blue Nile near the town of Sennar. Natural features The Dinder National Park of Sudan, which stretches south from the Dinder, is named after the river. Dinder National Park
Dinder National Park is a national park and biosphere reserve in eastern Sudan, and is connected to Ethiopia's Alitash National Park. Location Dinder lies approximately southeast of Khartoum, on either side of the Dinder River bounded to the north by the Rahad River. The town of Dinder ( northwest) acts as a gateway for tourists wishing to enter the Park. History The area of Dinder was heavily populated when it was first visited by Europeans in 1861. In the 1880s, at the time of the Mahdist War and a famine, the human population vanished. Alfred Harrison found only traces of human habitation in 1925. Dinder was established as a park in 1935 following the London Convention of 1933 and designated in 1979 as a member of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. In 1983 the park was extended towards the west. Ecology Dinder National Park is ecologically significant because it falls on the ecotone between the Sahel and Ethiopian Highlands ecoregions.
