Dickinson is a ghost town in Wright County, Minnesota, United States. Location Dickinson is located at a bend in Minnesota State Highway 55 on the east side of Wright County, between the cities of Rockford and Buffalo. History Dickinson was named for the farmer, A.C. Dickinson, the original owner of the town site. The town had a station of the Soo Line Railroad The Soo Line Railroad is the primary United States railroad subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway , one of seven U.S. Class I railroads, controlled through the Soo Line Corporation. Although it is named for the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sa .... Today, little trace remains of the town, though the state has erected a sign indicating where the town was, and the dirt streets of the town are still navigable by car. Wright County is a county in the East Central part of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 141,337. Its county seat is Buffalo. The county was founded in 1855. Wright County is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul- Bloomington, MN- WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. In terms of population, Wright County is the tenth-largest county in Minnesota and the second-fastest growing. History The county was established in 1855, and was named for New York politician Silas Wright. The first county seat was Monticello; in 1868 the county seat was changed to Buffalo. Minnesota State Highway 55 (MN 55) is a highway in west-central, central, and east-central Minnesota, which runs from the North Dakota state line near Tenney and continues east and southeast to its eastern terminus at its intersection with U.S. Highway 61 in Hastings. This route, signed east–west, runs roughly diagonally across the central part of Minnesota. Highway 55 is in length. Route description Highway 55 serves as a northwest–southeast route between Elbow Lake, Glenwood, Paynesville, Annandale, Buffalo, Plymouth, Minneapolis, Mendota Heights, and Hastings. Rockford, Minnesota
Rockford is a city in Wright and Hennepin counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 4,316 at the 2010 census. While Rockford is mainly located within Wright County, a small part of the city extends into Hennepin County. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan statistical area. Minnesota State Highway 55 serves as a main route in the city. History Prior to the founding of what is today Rockford, Native Americans inhabited the area. Mounds anywhere from 500 to 1500 years old can be found, as well as a trail dating just as long that runs under the Bridge Street Bridge on the Hennepin County side. The area was a natural border land between the Ojibwe and Dakota, and was good hunting and wintering grounds to the tribes that could come and go. It officially belonged to the Dakotas. Buffalo is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Wright County. It is within the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, located about 42 miles northwest of Minneapolis on Buffalo Lake. The population of Buffalo was 15,453 at the 2010 census. As of 2019 estimates, Buffalo has a population of 18,042. Minnesota State Highways 25 and 55 are two of the main routes in the city. Soo Line Railroad
The Soo Line Railroad is the primary United States railroad subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway , one of seven U.S. Class I railroads, controlled through the Soo Line Corporation. Although it is named for the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad (MStP&SSM), which was commonly known as the Soo Line after the phonetic spelling of Sault, it was formed in 1961 by the consolidation of that company with two other CP subsidiaries: The Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway, and the Wisconsin Central Railway. It is also the successor to other Class I railroads, including the Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern Railway (acquired 1982) and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road, acquired at bankruptcy in 1985).
