Devonport Railway Station
Devonport railway station serves the Devonport area of Plymouth in Devon, England. It is from via . It is managed by Great Western Railway. History The station opened with the Cornwall Railway on 4 May 1859. It was described at the time as "built of rubble masonry, in the Italian style of architecture, which style is adopted at all stations on the railway. It consists of an arrival, departure, and goods stations, the two former being stone structures, and the last a wooden erection". In 1865 the Royal Agricultural Show was held at nearby at Pennycomequick and so the opportunity was taken to enlarge the platforms at Devonport. A "refreshment booth" was also erected for the duration of the show to cater for the large number of visitors expected. The Cornwall Railway was amalgamated into the Great Western Railway on 1 July 1889. Devonport ( ), formerly named Plymouth Dock or just Dock, is a district of Plymouth in the English county of Devon, although it was, at one time, the more important settlement. It became a county borough in 1889. Devonport was originally one of the "Three Towns" (along with Plymouth and Stonehouse, Plymouth, East Stonehouse); these merged in 1914 to form what would become in 1928 the City of Plymouth. Albert Road Halt Railway Station
Albert Road Halt was a railway station in Plymouth in the English county of Devon. It was located between Ford and Devonport Park tunnels. History The station was opened by the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway on 1 November 1906, or possibly 1 October 1906. This confusion may be the result of a complaint by the PDSWJR to the London and South Western Railway in September 1906 that while they had constructed the halt, the LSWR had not provided any service, and it is reported that services commenced before the official opening of 1 November. Although this company remained independent until the grouping, the LSWR used its tracks as an entry to Plymouth that did not involve its rival the Great Western Railway. A rail ale trail is a marketing exercise in the United Kingdom that is designed to promote tourism to a rural area, by encouraging people to visit a series of pubs that are close to railway station, stations along a railway line. Participants are rewarded for visiting the pubs by train. In doing this they increase the number of passengers on the railway and bring money into the local economy. The scheme is often supported by the Campaign for Real Ale. The beer is usually brewed locally and many of the pubs offer food as well. Each trail is publicised by a free booklet that is distributed through stations and local outlets, and which is also available for downloading from the internet. The Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership is the largest Community Rail Partnership in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 1991 to promote the use of, and improvements to, rural railways in Devon and Cornwall, and also to promote the places served in order to improve the local economy. Tamar Valley Line
The Tamar Valley Line is a railway line from Plymouth, Devon, to Gunnislake, Cornwall, in England, also known as the Gunnislake branch line. The line follows the River Tamar for much of its route.
