Denzlingen
Denzlingen is a municipality in the district of Emmendingen, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated north of Freiburg. Geography Denzlingen is located in the Upper Rhine Valley (''Oberrheinische Tiefebene'') at the edge of the Black Forest (''Schwarzwald'') between the river Elz in the north and the Glotter which runs through the southern part of the town. The Glotter Valley (''Glottertal'') is to the east, and the Elz Valley (''Elztal'') to the northeast. The westernmost foothills of the Black Forest and the town of Freiamt lie to the north. From northwest to southwest the Upper Rhine Valley allows a clear view of the Kaiserstuhl hills and of the Vosges Mountains on the French side of the Rhine. The Mauracher Berg is a small mountain in the north of the township with some interesting geological features. Heuweiler
Heuweiler is a village in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg near Freiburg in southern Germany. The village has to a large extent retained its rural character. Whereas many communities in the vicinity of Freiburg have grown rapidly in recent decades a slow, organic change occurred in Heuweiler. Geography Heuweiler is located at the mouth of the Glotter valley in the Rhine Valley. The municipality consists of the village Vorderheuweiler, the hamlet Hinterheuweiler, the tine Neuhäuser and the farms and Berghäusle and Litzelstahlerhof. Emmendingen
Emmendingen (; Low Alemannic: ''Emmedinge'') is a town in Baden-Württemberg, capital of the district Emmendingen of Germany. It is located at the Elz River, north of Freiburg im Breisgau. The town contains more than 26,000 residents, which is the most in the Emmendingen district. Neighbour cities Emmendingen is bordered by several cities and municipalities; clockwise from the north: Malterdingen, Kenzingen, Freiamt (Black Forest), Sexau, Denzlingen, Reute (Breisgau), and Teningen. History The first mention of this town in a document dates back to 1091, however it is much older. It was the seat of the counts of Hochberg, a cadet branch of the Margraviate of Baden. Emmendingen (district)
Emmendingen (German: ''Landkreis Emmendingen'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the west of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (from north clockwise) Ortenaukreis, Schwarzwald-Baar, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and the district-free city Freiburg. To the west it borders the French ''département'' Bas-Rhin. History The district dates back to the ''Bezirksamt Emmendingen'', which was created in 1803 when the area became part of Baden. After several additions it was converted into the district Emmendingen in 1936, when it was merged with the ''Amt Waldkirch''. In the communal reform of 1973 the district wasn't changed - at first it was planned to merge it with the district Lahr, but that was merged into the Ortenaukreis instead. Elz (Rhein)
The Elz is a river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, a right tributary of the Rhine. It rises in the Black Forest, near the source of the Breg. The Elz flows through Elzach, Waldkirch and Emmendingen before reaching the Rhine near Lahr. Its length is approx. . The lower reaches of the Elz are by-passed by the Leopold Canal, a flood relief canal. Course The Elz rises north of Furtwangen in the area of the Brend and the Rohrhardsberg mountains (between the Furtwänglehof and the Kolmenhof) not far from the source of the Breg which is hydrographically the source of the Danube. In its upper reaches the Elz flows in a northerly direction, initially through a high valley with pasture land, bog and ice age glacial landforms. Black Forest
The Black Forest (german: Schwarzwald ) is a large forested mountain range in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany, bounded by the Rhine Valley to the west and south and close to the borders with France and Switzerland. It is the source of the Danube and Neckar rivers. Its highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of above sea level. Glotter
Glotter is a river of in the Breisgau region in the south of Baden-Württemberg, Germany which is approximately 30 km long. The spring of this river is located at an altitude of 1040 m amsl on the eastern slope of the Kandel near Neuwelt, a suburb of St. Peter in the Black Forest. Waldkirch is a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located 15 kilometers northeast of Freiburg im Breisgau. Gundelfingen
Gundelfingen im Breisgau ( Low Alemannic: ''Gundelfinge im Brisgau'') is a municipality directly north of the city Freiburg in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. Gundelfingen is one of the larger municipalities in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. It consists of the old place Gundelfingen and the village Wildtal, which was included in the municipality in the 1970s. History Gundelfingen Gundelfingen was founded in the 4th century, so at least the suffix "-ingen" suggests. The name means that some Alamannic chief by the name of ''Gundolf'' settled there with his folk. The first sure sign of Gundelfingen's existence is found in a 1008 treaty, where a place called ''Gondalvingen'' is named. Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald (french: Arrondissement de Brisgau-Haute-Forêt-Noire) is a (district) in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Fifty towns and municipalities with 133 settlements lie within the district. The district itself belongs to the region of Freiburg with the region of Southern Upper Rhine. Glottertal
Glottertal is a municipality in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. History From 1567 till the Napoleonic Wars the area was part of Further Austria and therefore part of the Habsburg monarchy. Although the history of mining in the Glottertal goes back to Roman times and villages in the area are mentioned 1112 in the chronics of Abbey of Saint Peter in the Black Forest the municipal Glottertal was formed in 1970. The four former independent villages Unterglottertal, Oberglottertal, Ohrensbach und Föhrental were associated to the Glottertal municipal.
