Denderstreek
The Denderstreek or Denderland is a region in Belgium. It is named after the river Dender. Though the river stretches over three provinces, Hainaut, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant, the region called after the river is situated in East Flanders. The Dutch word ''streek'' means region. Thus Denderstreek means the Dender Region. Most of the Denderstreek is part of the Scheldeland (Scheldtland), the rest is part of the Flemish Ardennes. Erpe-Mere
Erpe-Mere () is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality located in the Belgium, Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the towns of Aaigem, Bambrugge, Burst (village), Burst, Erondegem, Erpe, Mere, Belgium, Mere, Ottergem and Vlekkem. There is also a hamlet in Bambrugge: Egem (East Flanders), Egem. Erpe-Mere is crossed by 2 brooks, the Molenbeek (Erpe-Mere Bovenschelde), Molenbeek and the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek. Erpe
Erpe is a sub-municipality of Erpe-Mere in Flanders on the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek in the Denderstreek in the southeast of East Flanders and belongs to Arrondissement of Aalst. Aaigem
Aaigem is a village belonging to the municipality of Erpe-Mere. It is located in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. The village has some 2000 inhabitants. Aaigem was an independent municipality with an area of 7.32 square kilometers till 1976. Geography Aaigem is located north of the Flemish Ardennes, a hilly region, and is also a part of the Denderstreek. The village is situated on the north of the valley of Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek, a brook passing south of the village centre. Since the valley is characterized by low wet land, construction development is rather limited there. The village centre of Aaigem is situated about 53 meters above sea level, with the Molenbeek brook being about 30 meters above sea level. Buggenhout
Buggenhout () is a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the towns of Buggenhout proper, Briel, Opdorp, and . In 2021, Buggenhout had a total population of 14,689. The total area is 25.25 square kilometres. Buggenhout is also known for its forest, the "Buggenhoutbos", which is the largest forest of East Flanders. The geographic centre of Flanders lies in Opdorp. Moorsel is a village in the Denderstreek in the province East Flanders in Belgium, a '' deelgemeente'' of the city of Aalst. The village belongs to a league of neighbouring villages, which call themselves the ''Faluintjesgemeenten''. Moorsel is the largest of the four villages with approximately 5,175 inhabitants as of 2021. Name Today's accepted spelling "Moorsel" dates merely from the 18th century. Grembergen
Grembergen (French: ''Grembergen-lez-Termonde'') is a town in the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in the province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is often confused with the municipality of Grimbergen in the province of Flemish Brabant. Overview Grembergen was first mentioned in 1019 as Grendberga. During the 13th and 14th century, the village was reasonably prosperous as a centre of lace production. The village was flooded several times. The old church was destroyed in 1706 by French troops. In 1709, the Saint Margaretha church was built partially from scavenged material of the old church. Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde
Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde (french: Saint-Gilles-lez-Termonde) is a part of the municipality of Dendermonde in the Denderstreek in East Flanders in Belgium, a typical agricultural village in the Dendervallei near the junction of the railroads to Ghent, Mechelen and Brussels. It was formerly known as Zwijveke. Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde is birthplace to poet Emmanuel Hiel (1834 - 1894) and literature historian Wies Moens (1898 - 1982). Sint-Gillis-bij-Dendermonde has a yearly flower show on the first Sunday of September, a parade of flower-covered floats built in the several districts of Sint-Gillis, to a different theme each year. On 23 January 2009, a man Dendermonde nursery attack, attacked a children's daycare centre in the village, killing at least three people and wounding as many as twenty. Bambrugge is a sub-municipality of Erpe-Mere in Flanders. It is located on the Molenbeek (Erpe-Mere Bovenschelde), Molenbeek in the Denderstreek, southeast of East Flanders and belongs to the Arrondissement of Aalst. It is bordered by the sub-municipalities of Vlekkem, Ottergem, Mere, Belgium, Mere, Aaigem and Burst (village), Burst and the municipality of Sint-Lievens-Houtem (sub-municipality Zonnegem). Opdorp
Opdorp is one of the three towns making up the municipality of Buggenhout in East Flanders, Belgium. Sometimes it's classified in the Denderstreek. Opdorp is at the geographical centre of Flanders, Belgium. It is also the point at which three provinces meet: Brabant, Antwerp, and East Flanders. Opdorp developed around a triangular ''dries'' (village square). The ''dries'' contains a chapel and the village pump. The town hall, school and former monastery were built around the square.
