Delian Society
The Delian Society was an international community of composers, performers, academics, independent scholars, recording engineers, music publishers, and amateurs dedicated to revitalizing and promoting tonality in contemporary art music. The society was founded on 23 January 2004 by American composer Joseph Dillon Ford and takes its name from the Greek Island of Delos, legendary birthplace of Apollo, god of music and light. Members have collaborated in producing an ongoing series of Delian Suites for various soloists and ensembles. Delian Games 2006
The Delian League, founded in 478 BC, was an association of Polis, Greek city-states, numbering between 150 and 330, under the leadership of Classical Athens, Athens, whose purpose was to continue fighting the Achaemenid Empire, Persian Empire after the Greek victory in the Battle of Plataea at the end of the Second Persian invasion of Greece. The League's modern name derives from its official meeting place, the island of Delos, where congresses were held in the temple and where the treasury stood until, in a symbolic gesture, Pericles moved it to Athens in 454 BC. Shortly after its inception, Athens began to use the League's funds for its own purposes, which led to conflicts between Athens and the less powerful members of the League. Elisabetta Brusa
Elisabetta Olga Laura Brusa (born 3 April 1954) is an Italian composer naturalised British. Brusa was born in Milan, and as a child wrote 32 piano pieces. At the Milan Conservatory she formally studied composition with Bruno Bettinelli (who also taught famous Italian conductors like Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Muti) and Azio Corghi, graduating in 1980. She then taught Composition at the Conservatorios of Vicenza, Mantova and Brescia before arriving at the Conservatorio of Milan in 1985. Anthony Linden Jones (born 1959 in Sydney, Australia) is a composer, conductor and performer living in the Hawkesbury region, on the north west fringe of Sydney. He composes for concert pieces, film scores, songs, music for theatre and dance, and electronic works. He has written works for solo instruments up to full orchestra and written songs in a broad range of genre. His pieces have received a number of awards, performances, broadcasts and CD recordings. Edward Gold (July 25, 1936 to March 2, 2022), was an American pianist and composer. Early life Gold was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and lived most of his adult life in Manhattan. Education He attended public schools and majored in music at CCNY (today part of the City University of New York). He received his masters from Yale University School of Music where he studied with Ellsworth Grumman, Mel Powell and H. Leroy Baumgartner. Edward also studied with Nadia Reisenberg at the Mannes College of Music. Career After completing his studies, Gold worked as a pianist and toured internationally. Grant Colburn (born in Wisconsin in 1966) is an American composer, pianist and harpsichordist. He studied harpsichord with Igor Kipnis and composition with Irwin Sonenfield. He is the author of six published collections of neo-baroque and neo-renaissance harpsichord music including most recently two volumes of Twelve Carols of Christmas arranged for Harpsichord or Organ and Six Voluntaries for the Organ or Harpsichord. Michael Conway Baker (born March 13, 1937) is a Canadians, Canadian composer and music educator of American birth. He became a naturalized Canadian citizen in 1970 and has lived more or less continuously in the Vancouver area since. Life and career Baker was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. After self-teaching basic music theory as a child, Baker moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1958 at which time he began formal piano studies. Subsequently, Baker studied music at the University of British Columbia where he was a pupil in music composition with teachers Jean Coulthard and Elliot Weisgarber. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1966, he eventually pursued graduate studies at Western Washington University where he earned a Masters of Music in 1972.
