Brighton And Hove
Brighton and Hove () is a city and unitary authority in East Sussex, England. It consists primarily of the settlements of Brighton and Hove, alongside neighbouring villages. Often referred to synonymously as Brighton, the City of Brighton and Hove is England's most populous seaside resort, as well as the second most populous urban area in South East England. It is administered by Brighton and Hove City Council, which is currently in Green minority control. In 2014, Brighton and Hove City Council formed the Greater Brighton City Region with neighbouring local authorities. It can be considered both a coastal and a downland city benefiting from both the sea and the chalk hill grasslands that it is nestled in. Saltdean
Saltdean is a coastal village in the city of Brighton and Hove, with part (known as East Saltdean) outside the city boundary in Lewes district. Saltdean is approximately east of central Brighton, west of Newhaven, and south of Lewes. It is bordered by farmland and the South Downs National Park. History Saltdean was open farmland, originally a part of the village of Rottingdean, and almost uninhabited until 1924 when land was sold off for speculative housing and property development. Some of this was promoted by entrepreneur Charles W. Neville, who had set up a company to develop the site (he also eventually built nearby towns Peacehaven and parts of Rottingdean). Saltdean has a mainly shingle beach, fronted by a promenade, the Undercliff Walk, which can be reached directly from the cliff top, by steps from the coast road, or by a subway tunnel from the nearby Lido. Varndean College
Varndean College is a sixth form college in Brighton and Hove that serves the needs of sixth form students and adults. Location Varndean College is on Surrenden Road, in the northern part of Brighton. It shares the Surrenden campus with Balfour Junior School, Balfour Infants School, Dorothy Stringer School and Varndean Secondary School. History The college was founded in 1884 in York Place, Brighton, as a boys' secondary school and moved to its current site (overlooking the city and the sea) in 1932, later attaining grammar school status, becoming Varndean Grammar School for Boys, administered by the Education Committee for the County Borough of Brighton. Brighton, Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College, usually abbreviated to BHASVIC (pronounced "Baz-vic"), is a sixth form college in Brighton and Hove, England for 16- to 19-year-old students. The college is in the Prestonville area of the city. It is situated at the corner of Dyke Road (A2010) and the Old Shoreham Road (A270), a major road junction in the north-west of the city of Brighton & Hove in Seven Dials. History The college has its origins in the Brighton Proprietary Grammar and Commercial School, founded in July 1859 at Lancaster House, Grand Parade. The school continued as the Brighton, Hove and Sussex Grammar School. It opened on its present site in 1913. Varndean School
Varndean School is a secondary school serving a large area of Brighton, England. In 2013, 2017 and 2022, Ofsted inspectors described Varndean as a 'Good' school. Varndean shares the Surrenden Campus with Balfour Primary School, Dorothy Stringer School and Varndean College. History Varndean was founded in 1884 in central Brighton as York Place Higher Grade School. An Organised Science School was added in 1894. The name changed to Brighton Municipal Secondary School for Girls in 1905. During World War I, the York Place buildings were taken over for use as an Indian Military Hospital and not returned until 1919. In 1926, the school moved to a new site on the outskirts of Brighton. It was renamed 'Varndean' School for Girls, after the nearby farm. The new building was opened by the Duchess of Atholl. In 1929, a football club, Old Varndeanians, was established for former pupils. Portslade Aldridge Community Academy
Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA) (formerly Portslade Community College) is a secondary school led by Dr Alby Barrett with academy status located in Portslade, in the city of Brighton and Hove, England. It was rated Good by Ofsted in December 2016. The school has around 900 pupils. It is part of the Aldridge Education multi-academy trust. In June 2015 the Governors at Portslade Aldridge Community Academy announced the appointment of Elliott Fuller as the new Principal at PACA. Patcham High School
Patcham High School is one of nine secondary schools in Brighton, located in the village of Patcham. It has around 1,000 pupils. The current head teacher is John McKee. The school was founded on 7 July 1990, when Margaret Hardy school for girls and Patcham Fawcett school for boys were combined. The school is on Ladies Mile Road in Patcham. Margaret Hardy and Patcham Fawcett were the last two single sex schools in Brighton, and Patcham High School now serves the north of Brighton, situated next to the South Downs. The new logo is that of the Chattri, an Indian War Memorial that can be seen from Patcham. The logo was changed, along with the uniform, in 2006. In 2014, Patcham High School won The Argus school of the year award. Patcham High School has undergone marked improvement in teaching standards latterly. Longhill High School
Longhill High School is a co-educational secondary school for 11 to 16 year-olds, which is located in Rottingdean, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex. History The school was officially opened in 1964, although took its first intake in 1963. The school originally had six houses named after castles in Sussex: Arundel, Bramber, Chichester, Hastings, Lewes and Pevensey. On 16 September 2010, officially it opened its new block, named "Vaughan Block" after one of the longest-serving teachers, after a campaign on the social networking site Facebook. On the hottest day thus far in 2016, several dozen male pupils were excluded from lessons due to wearing school PE shorts instead of trousers. King's School, Hove
King's School, Hove is an 11-19 free school of Christian designation. It is an ecumenical school, although it is not a CofE School, it has roots with the Church of England. The school was originally established on a temporary site in Portslade. In September 2019 the school moved to its permanent site in Hangleton. In early 2020, it was severely damaged by Storm Ciara leading to the temporary closure of the school. Currently it also serves families in the BN3 postcode area. It opened in September 2013 with its first cohort of Year 7 students. The first headteacher was Mr Steve Flavin. The present headteacher is Mrs Sarah Price. King's School was established by the Russell Education Trust, working with local parents. Hove Park School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form centre located over two sites in Hove, East Sussex, England. The school is located over two sites in Hove: The Valley campus educates pupils aged 11 to 13 and 17-19 (academic years 7, 8 and sixth form), while the Nevill campus educates pupils aged 14 to 19 (academic years 9, 10 and 11). The school offers GCSEs, NVQs and A Levels. In 2002 the school was accredited as a specialist Language College. Dorothy Stringer School is a secondary school located in Brighton, East Sussex, England. It has over 1,600 pupils and 115 members of staff. There are 64 forms, each with an average of 26 students. Location and history The school, named after a 20th-century Mayoress of Brighton, opened in 1955. Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Hove
Cardinal Newman Catholic School is an 11–18 voluntary aided comprehensive school located in Hove, East Sussex, England. It is a Catholic mixed comprehensive; established to serve the many parishes that lie on the coastal band between Newhaven and Seaford in the east and Shoreham in the west. The School's name The school takes its name from John Henry Newman (1801-1890) a prominent Anglican who converted to Roman Catholicism and became a cardinal.
