David White (Australian Politician)
David Ronald White (born 16 June 1944) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Melbourne to Cecil Ambrose White, a clerk and draper, and Phyllis Eileen. He attended state schools and received a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration from Melbourne University. He joined the Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party in 1961, and was secretary of its North Melbourne, Victoria, North Melbourne branch in 1964. From 1966 to 1969 he was an audit clerk with Price Waterhouse & Company, and from 1971 to 1976 a research officer to the Leader of the Opposition (Victoria), Victorian opposition leader. He was also a City of Melbourne, Melbourne City Councillor from 1974 to 1977. In 1976 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council as a member for Doutta Galla Province, Doutta Galla. Melbourne ( ; Boonwurrung/ Woiwurrung: ''Narrm'' or ''Naarm'') is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Yarra Trams is the trading name of the operator of the tram network in Melbourne, Australia, which is owned by VicTrack and leased to Yarra Trams by the Victorian Department of Transport. The current franchise is operated by Keolis Downer. As at May 2014, Yarra Trams operate 487 trams, across 26 tram routes and a free City Circle tourist tram, over 1,763 tram stops. With 250 km (155.3 mi) of double track, Melbourne's tram network is the largest in the world. Monica Gould
Monica Mary Gould (born 5 May 1957) is a former Australian politician. She was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council between September 1993 and November 2006, representing Doutta Galla Province. Gould was born in Melbourne, and finished her secondary studies at a technical college in the suburb of Macleod. She became involved in the Manufacturing Grocers Association trade union, which later merged with the National Union of Workers. In 1980, she became its General Vice-President – a position which she held until her election to parliament. She was also a member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions executive between 1991 and 1993. In 1993, Gould decided to make a move into politics, and succeeded in securing Labor pre-selection for a by-election in the seat of Doutta Galla Province.
