Rising Appalachia is an American Appalachian music, Appalachian folk music group led by multi-instrumentalist sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith (musician), Chloe Smith. Leah also performs as a solo artist. Based between Atlanta, New Orleans, and the Asheville, North Carolina, Asheville area of North Carolina, the sisters work with an array of international musicians and the band incorporates everything from simple harmonics with banjos and fiddles, to a wide variety of drum kit, drums, Mbira, kalimbas, Beatboxing, beatbox, djembe, balafon, congas, didgeridoo, tablas, spoon (musical instrument), spoons and washboard (musical instrument), washboard creating a full mix of world music, world, folk music, folk and soul music, soul music. The washboard and frottoir (from Cajun French "frotter", to rub) are used as a percussion instrument, employing the ribbed metal surface of the cleaning device as a rhythm instrument.
