"Disco" Dave Hillyard is a Tenor saxophone, tenor saxophonist originating from San Diego, California. He has performed in groups such as The Slackers, The Rocksteady Seven, The Donkey Show (band), The Donkey Show, Hepcat (band), Hepcat, Stubborn All-Stars, and has guested with the likes of Rancid (band), Rancid, Victor Rice, Skinnerbox, Skinnerbox NYC and Alexandra Lawerentz. The Donkey Show (band)
The Donkey Show was a ska band based in San Diego that played Ska during the eighties. The band was formed in 1985. They introduced many people to ska music and were in the unique position of being one of the founding bands of the "California Ska Sound", a precursor to what some would call the third wave ska, third wave of ska. At one point they even received radio play on major radio stations such as KROQ-FM. Notability The Donkey Show were known for their male and female lead vocalists. The group's horn section included saxophonist Dave Hillyard who went on to play with Hepcat (band), Hepcat, the Slackers and more. Moon Ska
Moon Ska World, formerly known as Moon Ska Europe, is a ska record label based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1998 as the European sister label of the defunct American label Moon Ska Records, which was owned by Robert "Bucket" Hingley of The Toasters. Moon Ska World is a licensed affiliate run by Lol Pryor, the former Dojo Records and Link Records head. Due to illnesses in both Pryor and the other principal owner, Sonia "Red" Bailey, as well as deaths in their families, the label was put on hold until 2006, when Pryor changed its name to Moon Ska World and began running the label on his own. Unlike its American counterpart, Moon Ska Europe released bands from genres outside of ska, but in 2006, the label shifted its focus exclusively towards ska and old reggae. Better Late Than Never (The Slackers Album)
''Better Late Than Never'' is the debut album by the ska/reggae band the Slackers. It was released in 1996 on Moon Ska Records. It was remastered and re-released with three additional tracks from the original recording sessions on March 19, 2002, through Special Potato Records. The album was a significant departure from the 2 Tone and garage rock influences of the band's early days, instead opting for a sound akin to the traditional ska acts of 1960s Jamaica. The album was produced by the ska/reggae producer Victor Rice. Two of the songs on the album, "Work Song" and "Our Day Will Come", were both previously recorded by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on the 1966 album '' S.R.O.'', though neither of the songs were written by Alpert. The album was again reissued in 2009, by Asbestos Records, as a single disc that included a 7". Ska (; ) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. The Slackers
The Slackers are an American ska band, formed in Manhattan, New York in 1991. The band's sound is a mix of ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, soul, garage rock, and jazz. The Slackers' notability is credited to their prolific career, tours of North America, Europe, and elsewhere, and signing to notable punk label Hellcat Records. Archie Lee Bell (born September 1, 1944) is an American solo singer and former lead singer of Archie Bell & the Drells. Background Born to African-American parents Langston and Ruthie Bell in Henderson, Texas, United States, Archie is the second oldest of seven brothers, and the brother of USC and NFL football player Ricky Bell, and former world karate champion and singer, Jerry Bell. Johnny Osbourne (born Errol Osbourne, 1948) is one of the most popular Jamaican reggae and dancehall singers of all time, who rose to success in the late 1970s and mid-1980s. His album '' Truths and Rights'' was a roots reggae success, and featured "Jah Promise" and the album's title track, "Truths and Rights".
