Moon Ska
Moon Ska World, formerly known as Moon Ska Europe, is a ska record label based in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1998 as the European sister label of the defunct American label Moon Ska Records, which was owned by Robert "Bucket" Hingley of The Toasters. Moon Ska World is a licensed affiliate run by Lol Pryor, the former Dojo Records and Link Records head. Due to illnesses in both Pryor and the other principal owner, Sonia "Red" Bailey, as well as deaths in their families, the label was put on hold until 2006, when Pryor changed its name to Moon Ska World and began running the label on his own. Unlike its American counterpart, Moon Ska Europe released bands from genres outside of ska, but in 2006, the label shifted its focus exclusively towards ska and old reggae. Symarip
Symarip (also known at various stages of their career as The Bees, The Pyramids, Seven Letters and Zubaba) were a British ska and reggae band, originating in the late 1960s, when Frank Pitter and Michael Thomas founded the band as The Bees. The band's name was originally spelled ''Simaryp'', which is an approximate reversal of the word ''pyramids''. Consisting of members of West Indian descent, Simaryp is widely marked as one of the first skinhead reggae bands, being one of the first to target skinheads as an audience. Their hits included "Skinhead Girl", "Skinhead Jamboree" and "Skinhead Moonstomp", the latter based on the Derrick Morgan song, " Moon Hop". They moved to Germany in 1971, performing reggae and Afro-rock under the name Zubaba. Sonic Boom Six
Sonic Boom Six (often shortened to SB6) are an English five-piece band from Manchester, United Kingdom. Their eclectic sound combines different elements of several genres and has been described by ''Kerrang!'' as "taking ska, pop, grime, dubstep, punk and metal apart, then rebuilding them as a hyperactive hybrid". Their lyrics tend to focus on social commentary with a live show known for "clashing activism and good times". The band's influences include Bad Brains, Public Enemy, The Fugees, The Specials, The Streets, and The Clash. Skaville UK
Skaville UK were a British ska band. Bassist and vocalist Nick Welsh had previously played with a number of bands including Bad Manners, The Selecter and Prince Buster, whilst Louis Alphonso (vocals/guitar) and Martin Stewart (keyboards) also played with Bad Manners. Drummer Al Fletcher also played with The Selecter, Die So Fluid and Lee "Scratch" Perry. He died in 2016. Shootin' Goon
Shootin' Goon were a Welsh ska punk outfit of the late 1990s and early 2000s who were signed to the label Moon Ska Europe and later Good Clean Fun Records. Shootin' Goon released their debut album ''Splottside Rocksteady'' in 2000, with the title inspired by the Splott area of the band's hometown of Cardiff. The band later signed to lead singer Matt's own record label Good Clean Fun Records, and released the '' Left for Dead'' EP in 2003. The EP was reviewed by skateboarder Bam Margera for rock magazine ''Kerrang!'', in which he declared "I thought I was at the fucking circus!" prompting the band to sell T-shirts with the quote printed on them. The band broke up in 2004 following a self-organised tour. Following the band's demise Matt became manager of fellow Cardiff band Adequate Seven. The Selecter
The Selecter are an English 2 tone ska revival band, formed in Coventry, England, in 1979. The Selecter featured a diverse line-up, both in terms of race and gender, initially consisting of Arthur 'Gaps' Hendrickson and Pauline Black on lead vocals, Neol Davies and Compton Amanor on guitar, Desmond Brown on Hammond organ, Charley 'Aitch' Bembridge on drums, and Charley Anderson on bass. The band's name is based on the term "selector", which is a Jamaican word for disc jockey (DJ). The band were one of the most successful ska bands of the 2 tone era, notching up several top forty singles in the British charts. The Rudimentals
The Rudimentals are a nine-piece ska/reggae band from Cape Town, South Africa. The band's releases include two CDs, ''More Fire'' and ''Set It Proper'', and a live DVD/CD combo of the 2007 Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens Concert. More recently a new 5-song EP, ''Blaze Up The Fire'' was also released in November 2014, and a single track ''Bubbling'' for radio in February 2015. The group is one of a handful of Cape Town reggae-influenced bands, and has been described as a South African institution in tourist guides and on websites. Pama International
Pama International is an eight-piece reggae band from the United Kingdom. They describe themselves as 'Dub Fuelled Ska Rocksteady & Reggae'. They often play with other ska, dub and reggae artists. The band takes elements from many sources to produce their sound whilst broadly staying within the reggae format. In 2006, the band became the first new band in thirty years to sign to Trojan Records. Their earlier albums were released by Jamdown Records. The resulting release, ''Trojan Sessions'', had a line-up of vintage ska and reggae guests including Rico Rodriguez, Dennis Alcapone, Dawn Penn, Derrick Morgan and the first recording since the 1970s from Dave and Ansel Collins. Chris Murray (musician)
Chris Murray (born September 26, 1966) is a Canadian-singer-songwriter and guitarist working primarily in the genre of ska. In Canada, he was a member of the now-defunct ska band King Apparatus during the late 1980s and early 1990s. He now lives in the Los Angeles, California area, where he performs regularly, both solo as well as with the Chris Murray Combo. From 2003 until the venue's closure in 2009, Murray organized a weekly ska/reggae show called "The Bluebeat Lounge" which featured both local and out of town artists every Wednesday at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. Murray recorded ''Slackness'', a collaboration with the seminal New York City ska band The Slackers. The 11-song album features Murray singing lead vocals on new arrangements of his solo material, as well as some entirely new songs and a cover of The Clash's "Janie Jones". Farse (band)
Farse are an English five-piece ska-punk band from Birmingham. History They attended St. Thomas Aquinas school in Birmingham, where the band formed in 1996 as a four-piece, with the lineup of Ollie Patrick (vocals/guitar), Chris Badham (bass), Dan O'Connell (drums) and Tom Rose (guitar). After releasing a string of demos and a few line up changes (Tom Whithouse joining on second Guitar, leaving Ollie as Vocalist and Ade Preston replacing Tom Rose in the same year), they released their debut album, ''Means to an End'', (recorded at Rich Bitch studios, Selly Oak, Birmingham) on 8 October 2001. The record created a buzz throughout the underground punk and ska scene in the UK and attracted the attention of the Moon Ska Europe label.
