Darka And Slavko
Darka & Slavko (in Ukrainian ''Дарка й Славко'') was a popular musical duo of two first generation Ukrainians: Darka Konopada & Slavko Halatyn met in the mid-80's through their involvement with a Ukrainian college group's poetry reading for political prisoners. Here began a ten-year musical collaboration as well as an eight-year marriage. The duo lived in and worked out of the New York City area. Under the name "Darka & Slavko" the duo released four albums and produced many projects for other musicians. Initially they focused attention on creating a sound that was comprehensive for Ukrainian Americans who, until then, considered Ukrainian music existing only for the older generation. Slau (also known as Slavko Halatyn and Jerry Halatyn) is an American singer/songwriter and producer of Ukrainian descent living in New York City. He is best known in the podcasting and podsafe music world for producing the Podsafe for Peace holiday anthem "If Every Day Were Christmas". In the mid-1980s, Halatyn partnered with Darka Konopada to form Darka and Slavko and became one of the most popular duos in Ukrainian diaspora and Ukraine. Their partnership began a ten-year musical collaboration as well as an eight-year marriage. On June 20, 2014, Halatyn debuted as the lead singer of The Blue Turtles, a Sting tribute band, at the Ice House in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Volodymyr Ivasyuk
Volodymyr Mykhailovych Ivasyuk or Volodymyr Ivasiuk ( uk, Володи́мир Миха́йлович Івасю́к) (4 March 1949 – 24–27 April 1979) was a Ukrainian songwriter, composer and poet. He is the author and composer of the widely popular song " Chervona Ruta" popularized by Sofia Rotaru in 1971, and later covered by other singers. Biography Ivasyuk was born in Kitsman, Chernivtsi Oblast. His father Mykhaylo Ivasyuk was a well-known writer from Bukovyna. His mother Sofiya Ivasyuk, from Zaporizhzhia Oblast, was a teacher in a local school. He had two sisters, Halyna (b. 1944) and Oksana (b. 1960). As early as the age of five, Volodymyr began learning to play the violin at a music school. Later, he learnt to play the piano as well. Chervona Ruta (song)
"Chervona Ruta" ( uk, Червона рута) is a popular Ukrainian song written by Volodymyr Ivasyuk in 1968 and performed by many singers. The song was never formally copyrighted and due to its wide popularity is considered a Ukrainian folk song. It is named after a mythological flower, the chervona ruta, which if found turning a red colour by a young girl, was meant to bring happiness in love. The song's popularity peaked with the version performed by the Ukrainian singer Sofia Rotaru.
