Danish Town Planning Institute
The Danish Town Planning Institute (Danish language, Danish: Dansk Byplanlaboratorium) is an independent, self-owned institution based in Copenhagen, Denmark. It arranges the annual Danish Town Planning Conference and has instituted the Danish Urban Planning Award in collaboration with the Architects' Association of Denmark. The institute also arranges courses, conferences and study trips, consults Danish municipalities and publishes two magazines as well as books. Most of the operational costs are financed through income-generating activities. The rest is covered through grants from the authorities, institutions and private companies. History The Danish Town Planning Institute was founded in 1921 with inspiration from British town planning. It was a driving force behind the Finger Plan which has governed the development of the Greater Copenhagen Area since 1948. Danish Language
Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Communities of Danish speakers are also found in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the northern German region of Southern Schleswig, where it has minority language status. The Danish Association of Architects (Danish: , abbreviated to AA), is an independent professional body for architects in Denmark. History The Danish Association of Architects was founded at the initiative of L. A. Petersen on 21 November 1879. The principal aim was to advance and promote architectural quality by influencing planning and design of the physical environment in the widest possible context. The Finger Plan ( da, Fingerplanen) is an urban planning, urban plan from 1947 which provides a strategy for the development of the Copenhagen metropolitan area, Denmark. According to the plan, Copenhagen is to develop along five 'fingers', centred on S-train commuter rail lines, which extend from the 'palm', that is the dense urban fabric of central Copenhagen. In between the fingers, Greenway (landscape), green "wedges" are intended to provide land for agriculture and recreational purposes.
