Daniel Petrov (soccer)
Daniel Bozhilov Petrov ( bg, Даниел Божилов Петров) (born 8 September 1971 in Varna) is a Bulgarian boxer. He won a silver medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and a gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 in the category Light Flyweight. Petrov began his career in Varna, Bulgaria, but then went to Slavia (Sofia). He became a champion of the country several times. In 1993 he captured the European title in Bursa, Turkey. Two years later he won the world title at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Berlin, Germany, followed by the European title a year later in Vejle, Denmark. Light Flyweight
Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. The World Boxing Council (WBC) decided to resurrect this division in the 1970s. The first champion in this division was Franco Udella, who won the WBC title in 1975. Somrot Kamsing ( th, สมรถ คำสิงห์, born 1971-09-24) is a retired male boxer from Thailand, who competed for his Asian country at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Nshan Munchyan
Nshan Munchyan ( hy, Նշան Մունչյան, born June 24, 1963 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR) is a retired Armenian boxer. He is a former World, European, four-time Soviet and multi-time Armenian Champion. Biography Nshan started boxing in Armenia in 1976. He began boxing under the Soviet Union. Munchyan won a gold medal at the 1987 European Amateur Boxing Championships. After the Union's fall in 1991, Munchyan began representing his native Armenia. He won a gold medal at the 1993 World Amateur Boxing Championships and a gold medal at the 1994 World Cup. He is the first boxer from the independent Armenia to win a medal in either competition. Munchyan competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics where, after receiving a first round bye, he lost to Daniel Petrov, whom he previously defeated at the 1993 World Championships finals. Rogelio Marcelo García (born June 11, 1965 in Guantánamo) is a retired boxer from Cuba, who competed in the light flyweight (– 48 kg) division during the early 1990s. Marcelo lost in 1989 and 1991 at the world championships finals to American winner Eric Griffin but represented his native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where he won the gold medal (Griffin lost to Rafael Lozano 5-6 ). Jan Quast (born 9 January 1970 in Rostock) is a German former boxer who competed in the light flyweight (– 48 kg) division during the late 1980s, early 1990s. Boxing career As a junior he won a bronze medal at the 1987 World Junior Championships in Havana. He represented his native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he won the bronze medal. In the semifinals he was stopped by Bulgaria's eventual runner-up Daniel Petrov. Nelson Dieppa-Gerena (born February 25, 1971) is a Puerto Rican professional boxer. As an amateur, he represented Puerto Rico in international events including the 1991 World Amateur Boxing Championships, 1991 Pan American Games and the 1992 Summer Olympics. Dieppa debuted as a professional on February 13, 1993, when he defeated Carlos Figueroa. His first world championship fight took place on July 3, 2000, when he lost to Will Grigsby for the World Boxing Organization's light flyweight championship.
