Rogelio Marcelo
Rogelio Marcelo García (born June 11, 1965 in Guantánamo) is a retired boxer from Cuba, who competed in the light flyweight (– 48 kg) division during the early 1990s. Marcelo lost in 1989 and 1991 at the world championships finals to American winner Eric Griffin but represented his native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where he won the gold medal (Griffin lost to Rafael Lozano 5-6 ). A year earlier, at the Pan Am Games in Havana, Cuba, he had triumphed in the same division. Light Flyweight
Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. The World Boxing Council (WBC) decided to resurrect this division in the 1970s. The first champion in this division was Franco Udella, who won the WBC title in 1975. Flyweight is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Flyweight is a class in boxing which includes fighters weighing above 49 kg (108 lb) and up to 51 kg (112 lb). Professional boxing The flyweight division was the last of boxing's eight traditional weight classes to be established. Daniel Bozhilov Petrov ( bg, Даниел Божилов Петров) (born 8 September 1971 in Varna) is a Bulgarian boxer. He won a silver medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and a gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 in the category Light Flyweight. Petrov began his career in Varna, Bulgaria, but then went to Slavia (Sofia). He became a champion of the country several times. In 1993 he captured the European title in Bursa, Turkey. Two years later he won the world title at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Berlin, Germany, followed by the European title a year later in Vejle, Denmark. Roel Velasco
Roel Velasco (born June 26, 1969 in Bago, Negros Occidental) is a retired boxer from the Philippines. He competed in the light flyweight (– 48 kg) division during the late 1980s, early 1990s. He represented his native country of the Philippines at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where he won the bronze medal. In the semi-finals he was stopped by Cuba's eventual winner Rogelio Marcelo. He is the elder brother of Mansueto Velasco, who won the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the same weight division. Roel won the silver medal at the 1997 World Amateur Boxing Championships.
