Dalhem, Gotland
Dalhem (also referred to as Dalhem and Hallvide), is a populated area, a socken (not to be confused with parish), on the Swedish island of Gotland. It comprises the same area as the administrative Dalhem District, established on 1January 2016. Geography Dalhem is the name of the socken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding the medieval Dalhem Church, sometimes referred to as ''Dalhem kyrkby''. It is situated in central Gotland. The area is rural with farms, tourism and equestrian facilities as the main sources of income. , Dalhem Church belongs to Dalhem parish in Romaklosters pastorat, along with the churches in Ganthem, Hörsne and Ekeby. Gutnish Language
Gutnish ( ), or rarely Gutnic ( sv, gutniska or ), refers to the original language spoken on parts of the islands of Gotland and Fårö. The different dialects of Gutnish, while stemming from the Old Gutnish ( sv, Forngutniska) variety of Old Norse, are sometimes considered part of modern Swedish. Dalhem Church
Dalhem Church ( sv, Dalhems kyrka) is a medieval church in Dalhem on the Swedish island of Gotland. Built in the 13th and 14th century, the church underwent major changes during a renovation at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. Dalhem Church lies in the Diocese of Visby of the Church of Sweden. History The very first church on the site was a stave church, now vanished. This was followed by small stone church on the same site. This church, probably Romanesque in style, seems to have had a choir with an apse. In the presently visible church, the choir and nave are the oldest parts, dating from the 13th century. The tower, the main portal and the large window on the western façade date from the 14th century. The construction was led by Cistercian monks from nearby Roma Abbey. Formerly two ''sockens'', Hörsne () and Bara, Bara was merged with Hörsne under the name Hörsne ''socken'' or Hörsne with Bara ''socken''. It comprises the same area as the administrative Hörsne-Bara District, established on 1January 2016. Geography Hörsne, or Hörsne with Bara, is the name of the ''socken'' as well as the district.
