Dale is a community in the municipality of Port Hope, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the junction of county roads 28 (Ontario Street) and 74 (Dale Road); county road 28 leads south to interchange 464 on Ontario Highway 401 and further south to the town centre of Port Hope. The communities of Welcome, Davidson's Corners and Precious Corners are to the west, north and east respectively. The Ganaraska River flows on the west side of the community. Port Hope is a municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada, approximately east of Toronto and about west of Kingston. It is located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the west end of Northumberland County. The private Trinity College School opened here in 1868. History Cayuga people, one of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, migrated to the Port Hope area from New York state in 1779. They had been forced from their homeland south of the Great Lakes after having been allies of the British during the American Revolution. Ganaraska River
The Ganaraska River is a river in Northumberland County, Ontario, Northumberland County and the Regional Municipality of Durham in Southern Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin, and is a tributary of Lake Ontario, which it reaches at the central community of the municipality of Port Hope, Ontario, Port Hope. The river's name is thought to be derived from ''Ganaraske'', the Cayuga name for the Cayuga people, village this Iroquoian nation had established in this area in 1779. Together with other nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, they had migrated from New York, forced to cede their homelands because of having allied with the British in the American Revolutionary War.
