DaDaFest
DaDaFest is a disability arts organisation based in Liverpool, UK. It delivers an international, biennial festival and organises other events to promote disability and deaf arts from a variety of cultural perspectives. Alongside the festival and events, DaDaFest organises opportunities for disabled and deaf people to gain access to the arts. This includes training and a youth focused programme. DaDaFest is funded by Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council as well as other private and public sector partners. History DaDaFest was founded as ''Arts Integrated Merseyside'' (or AIM) as a part of the Shape Arts network in 1984. AIM was integral to the early campaign for greater equality and access for disabled people, but was not disability led. Mandy Colleran
Mandy Colleran (born 7 July 1962) is a comic, writer, actress and disability arts activist. Career Mandy Colleran has been involved in disability arts since the 1980s. She is a member of the comedy trio ''No Excuses'' along with Mandy Redvers-Rowe and Ali Briggs. In 1986 Colleran became Joint Development Officer of Arts Integration Merseyside (AIM) with John McGrath (artistic director), John McGrath, it later became DaDaFest#History, North West Disability Arts Forum (NWDAF). Julie McNamara
Julie McNamara (born 26 March 1960) is a theatre director, playwright, producer, actor and poet. She is artistic director of touring theatre company Vital Xposure. Patron of disability arts organisation DaDaFest and a political activist for human rights and gender politics. Early career McNamara first performed as a backing singer in 1977 with punk band The Plague. That same year she was voted Actress of the Year in Merseyside Drama Festival. She went on to work with Lowbrow Theatre, and the National Student Drama Festival at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. She wrote and directed a trilogy: Venus and the Fly Trap, Cock and Bull Stories and Kill the Fatted Calf all produced in Nottingham 1981- 2. John McGrath (artistic Director)
John Edward McGrath (born 5 September 1962) is a British artistic director and chief executive of Manchester International Festival. Early life John Edward McGrath was born 5 September 1962 in Mold, North Wales and grew up in Liverpool. Education McGrath gained his Ph.D. from the New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science in 1999. Career As a development officer McGrath founded Arts Integrated Merseyside (AIM), a disability arts organisation based in Liverpool, which later became DaDaFest. Kaite O'Reilly
Kaite O'Reilly FRSL is UK-based playwright, author and dramaturge of Irish descent. She has won multiple awards for her work, including the Ted Hughes Award (2011) for her version of Aeschylus's tragedy ''The Persians.'' O'Reilly's plays have been performed at venues across the UK and at the Edinburgh Festival. Her work has also been shown internationally including in Europe Australia, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. O'Reilly openly identifies as a disabled artist and has spoken of the importance of "identifying socially and politically as disabled" to her work. Bert Massie
Sir Herbert William Massie, (31 March 1949 – 15 October 2017), known as Bert Massie, was a British disability rights campaigner. He served as Chairman of the Disability Rights Commission from 2000 to 2007, and was a founding Commissioner of its successor the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Early life Massie was born in Liverpool, on 31 March 1949 to Herbert Douglas Massie and Lucy Joan Massie. He contracted polio in 1949 and spent his first five years receiving care at Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital. He moved to the Children's School of Rest and Recovery at the age of five and to Sandfield Park Special School at the age of eleven. Liz Carr
Liz Carr is an English actress, comedian, broadcaster and international disability rights activist. Early life and education Carr was born 21 April 1972 in Port Sunlight and grew up in Bebington, Merseyside. Evelyn Glennie
Dame Evelyn Elizabeth Ann Glennie, (born 19 July 1965) is a Scottish people, Scottish percussionist. She was selected as one of the two laureates for the Polar Music Prize of 2015. Early life Glennie was born in Methlick, Aberdeenshire in Scotland. The Scottish traditional music, indigenous musical traditions of north-east Scotland were important in her development as a musician. Her first instruments were the piano and the clarinet.
