Dyfed Wyn-Evans
Dyfed Wyn Evans (born 1969 in Cardiff) is a Welsh baritone opera singer who grew up in Dinas Powis, Glamorgan, Wales. He attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Vienna Conservatoire. He is married to the mezzo-soprano Carolyn Jackson. Dyfed Wyn Evans' operatic work includes appearances for Grange Park Opera, English Touring Opera, Broomhill Opera, and the Buxton Festival, and has performed the role of The Podestat in Bizet's ''Le Docteur Miracle'', one of the most challenging of all baritone roles, at the Voray Festival in Besançon. English Touring Opera (ETO) is an opera company in the United Kingdom founded in 1979 under the name Opera 80 by the then-existing Arts Council of Great Britain. In 1992 the company changed to its present name. Today it is sponsored in part by Arts Council England as well as receiving support from individual and corporate sponsors, plus trusts and foundations. The company aims to bring high quality opera to areas of England that would not otherwise have ready access to such productions. Buxton Festival
The Buxton Festival is an annual summer festival of opera, music and (since 2000) a literary series, held in Buxton, Derbyshire, England since its beginnings in July 1979. The 2020 festival would have run but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis. The 2023 Buxton International Festival will run 6–23 July. Origins of the present-day Festival The origins of the Festival date to September 1937, when an annual drama festival was first held (running until 1942) in conjunction with the London-based Old Vic Theatre Company under Lilian Baylis. In addition to plays at the Buxton Opera House, the festival ran a summer school at the adjoining Playhouse Theatre.
